About the role
Our General Manager leads TMPAC and works directly with our Board of Martu Directors. As her Executive Assistant, you will be her trusted right hand: running the executive office, managing the Board and governance cycle, and representing the office with Directors, members, government and industry partners.
This is a senior role for an experienced executive assistant. You'll be across TMPAC's most important and sensitive work, including Board decisions, agreements with mining and government partners, and the issues that matter most to Martu members. It calls for someone who brings calm to complexity, uses sound judgement and discretion, and can step in with confidence from day one.
You'll report directly to the General Manager and join our close-knit Operations team, working from either our Beaufort St office (right next to the train station) or in the heart of our community in Wiluna.
Key responsibilities
- Run the General Manager's executive office: diary, inbox, priorities, correspondence and travel, so the GM's time goes to what matters most
- Lead the Board and committee cycle: annual calendar, notices, agendas, Board papers, minutes and action registers
- Track Board and executive decisions, and follow up actions with managers and advisers through to completion
- Prepare high-quality correspondence, briefing notes, papers and presentations for the GM, the Board and external partners
- Act as the first point of contact for Directors, members, government, mining and industry partners on the GM's behalf
- Handle highly confidential and culturally sensitive information with absolute discretion
- Support TMPAC’s governance and compliance obligations under its Rule Book and the CATSI Act, including maintaining ORIC and other compliance registers and reporting, and coordinating Annual and Special General Meetings, Board meetings and committee meetings
About you
- Significant experience as an Executive Assistant to a CEO, General Manager or Executive Director, including supporting a board
- Proven ability to run an executive's office independently, anticipate priorities and keep complex work moving without close supervision
- A strong background in governance level system and process improvement.
- Strong governance know-how: Board papers, minutes, action registers and compliance timelines
- Polished written communication, and the judgement and presence to represent the GM and TMPAC’s executive office with senior stakeholders
- An understanding of Aboriginal corporations and native title, or a genuine interest and the ability to learn quickly and respectfully
- A current driver's license, a National Police Clearance
- A clear understanding of the role as a trusted support to the GM and Martu decision-makers, enabling effective delegation, coordinated delivery and robust follow-through
- An inclusive, collaborative approach that makes others feel valued and recognised,
and brings people together across roles and levels without ego or hierarchy
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Wiluna and spend time on Country, with a genuine commitment to being present with Community and other stakeholders.
You'll thrive here if…
- you are motivated by purpose and want your skills and experience to make a meaningful difference for Martu people, Community and Country
- you enjoy bringing order to complexity, keeping people, priorities and details on track when no two days are the same
- you communicate proactively and clearly, using sound judgement, discretion and discernment
- you anticipate what people need, act early and keep work moving smoothly
- you bring strong cultural and emotional intelligence, adapting your approach with respect and awareness
- you stay calm under pressure and care more about collective success than individual recognition
- you listen before you lead, learn quickly and build trusted relationships as you go
- you are comfortable being the trusted right hand to senior decision-makers, providing dependable support and advice
This probably isn't the role for you if…
- you want to set the direction for community
- you prefer a role with highly structured day-to-day direction
- you expect extensive training before taking ownership of tasks
- you prefer a role where processes are already fully established, rather than helping create the structure and improvements the role is designed to provide
- you find change difficult or frustrating
- you are unable to travel regularly (monthly)
You don't need to tick every box and maybe we don’t tick all of your boxes, but if you possess serious executive support experience and want it to count for Martu people, Community and Country, we'd still really love to hear from you for an informal confidential chat to see if our stars may align.
About us
TMPAC is the native title holding body for the Wiluna Martu people. We hold and advance native title rights across the Wiluna determination area, including the Matuwa and Kurrara Kurrara Indigenous Protected Area. From our Beaufort Street head office, just north of the Perth CBD, our small, supportive team works closely together to deliver practical outcomes for Community and Country.
We are an equal opportunity employer: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and Wiluna Martu people in particular, are strongly encouraged to apply. We welcome applicants of every age, gender, culture, ability and background, and will make adjustments to support you through the process.
What we offer
- $90,000–$102,000 + super, depending on skills and experience
- Salary packaging, so more of your pay stays in your bank account (see below)
- Professional development opportunities tailored to you
- An Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- A central Beaufort St office just north of the CBD, close to the train station
- Opportunity to work in the unique and culturally rich Wiluna region
- A permanent full-time position at our Perth head office
Meaningful, high-impact work alongside the General Manager, Martu Directors, Elders and members, in a team that looks after each other.
Salary packaging: keep more of what you earn
As an eligible not-for-profit employee, you can pay for everyday costs from your pre-tax salary. You pay less income tax, so more of your pay stays in your bank account every pay day.
What you can package:
- Living expenses, up to $15,900 per year: rent, mortgage repayments, bills and other everyday costs.
- Meal entertainment and venue hire, up to a further $2,650 per year: dining out, holiday accommodation and venue hire.
- Perks with no cap: work-related items such as laptops, tablets and phones, self-education, and additional super contributions (subject to the concessional contributions cap).
What it could mean for you: depending on your salary, packaging the full amounts could leave many employees roughly $2,700 to $5,000 a year better off. *
*Estimate only. Your result depends on your income, packaging provider fees and personal circumstances, and packaging may affect some income-tested payments and obligations. We recommend seeking independent financial advice.
