Senior Gardener / Team Leader

The Good Gardener – Melbourne VIC

Full-time | $41–$45 per hour including superannuation

About The Good Gardener

The Good Gardener is an established Melbourne-based garden maintenance and landscaping business servicing residential, commercial and body corporate properties across Melbourne's eastern, south-eastern, inner-eastern and Bayside suburbs.

We take pride in delivering high-quality garden maintenance, maintaining long-term client relationships and ensuring every property is cared for to a professional standard.

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Gardener / Team Leader who can take ownership of jobs, confidently lead a small team and ensure work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.

About the role

This is a hands-on leadership position, not just a general gardening role.

You'll be responsible for organising and managing daily gardening jobs, supervising team members, maintaining quality standards and ensuring scheduled work is completed properly.

We're looking for someone who can work independently, make decisions on site and take responsibility for jobs from start to finish.

Key responsibilities:

- Lead and supervise a small team of gardeners across residential, commercial and body corporate properties.

- Organise daily jobs, allocate tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently and on schedule.

- Carry out professional garden maintenance, including pruning, hedging, mowing, edging, weeding and general garden care.

- Manage irrigation systems, including troubleshooting, repairs, adjustments, maintenance and identifying watering issues.

- Identify plants, weeds, pests and common garden problems and recommend appropriate solutions.

- Undertake planting, mulching,

soil improvement and garden bed maintenance.

- Assist with soft landscaping, garden improvements and occasional smaller hard landscaping projects.

- Operate and maintain commercial gardening equipment.

- Communicate professionally with clients and management regarding job progress, site requirements and additional work.

- Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, presentation and site cleanliness.

- Ensure tools, equipment and materials are organised and ready for each job.

About you

We're looking for someone with strong hands-on gardening knowledge, proven leadership ability and the confidence to manage jobs without constant supervision.

Essential requirements:

- Minimum 4 years of professional gardening, horticulture or landscape maintenance experience.

- Experience supervising staff, leading a small team or independently managing gardening jobs.

- Practical irrigation experience, including fault-finding, repairs and maintaining existing irrigation systems.

- Strong knowledge of plants, pruning techniques, garden maintenance and seasonal garden care.

- Experience operating commercial gardening equipment.

- Ability to plan daily workloads, organise staff and manage time effectively.

- Confidence communicating with clients and handling day-to-day site requirements.

- Current Australian driver's licence.

- Strong attention to detail, reliability and pride in your workmanship.

- Ability to work independently and solve problems on site.

Highly regarded:

- Certificate III in Horticulture, Landscaping or a related qualification.

- Experience with irrigation controllers, automatic watering systems and irrigation installations.

- Experience working on commercial or body corporate properties.

- White Card.

- Experience with planting, garden improvements and soft landscaping.

What we offer

- $41–$45 per hour including superannuation, depending on experience and capability.

- Permanent full-time employment with consistent year-round work.

- A genuine leadership position with responsibility for managing jobs and supporting the team.

- Wide-ranging work across established residential, commercial and body corporate gardens.

- Company vehicle provided, including take-home use and travel to and from work sites.

- An established business with long-term clients and regular maintenance contracts.

- Opportunity to contribute ideas, take ownership of your work and help the business grow.

- Supportive working environment where quality work and initiative are valued.

Location

Based in Ashburton, Melbourne, with work across Melbourne's eastern, south-eastern, inner-eastern and Bayside suburbs.

How to apply

If you're an experienced gardener who takes pride in quality work, enjoys leading a team and has the confidence to run jobs independently, we'd love to hear from you.

Please apply through SEEK with your resume and a brief introduction outlining your gardening experience, leadership responsibilities and practical irrigation experience.
