Description

Lead finance at the edge of hypersonic flight

Hypersonix is Australia’s leading aerospace engineering and advanced manufacturing company specialising in hypersonic technology and scramjet aircraft. We work at the bleeding edge delivering aircraft that fly faster, reach further, and open recent pathways to space – we’re a small, fast growing, highly capable team doing work that genuinely matters.

The role

This is a newly created position, reporting to the Group CEO and sitting on the executive leadership team. This role has a strong strategic focus – a capable finance team runs day-to-day operations – however, as a small, fast-growing business stepping into detail when it matters is required.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

- Financial Strategy & Leadership – Own financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting and long-range modelling. As a core member of the executive team, give the CEO, leadership team and Board clear financial and commercial advice on strategic decisions, and build scalable systems, processes and controls for a fast-growing business.

- Governance – Lift financial governance to capital-raising, defence-sector business, standards. Own statutory and regulatory financial compliance across tax, ASIC, superannuation, the R&D; tax incentive and export control-related reporting.

- Investor Relations & Capital Raising – Lead preparation and execution of capital raising rounds, including financial modelling, investor decks, data room management and due diligence. Key liaison point for investor relations. Manage the cap table and shareholder reporting.

- International Expansion – Lead financial and structural work to establish overseas operating entities. Establish overseas banking, payroll and statutory compliance with local advisers, and work with legal and export control advisers on regulatory implications including ITAR and EAR requirements. Support commercial negotiations with US customers, partners and investors.

- Team Leadership – Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, growing the function as the company scales. Partner with People & Culture on workforce planning, the employee share scheme,

remuneration and finance-related people processes.

- Financial Reporting & Analysis – Review end-to-end transactional accounting and deliver weekly cash-flow reporting. Prepare and present weekly, monthly and annual financial reports, along with consolidated annual financial statements for the CEO, Audit & Risk Committee and Board. Lead the annual external audit, tax return and R&D; tax claim, and turn financial data into insights that support strategic initiatives and manage risk.

- General – Prepare the annual operating plan and oversee budgeting, forecasting, P&L;, month-end and executive and Board reporting. Manage cash flow, treasury, banking and working capital, and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and debt collection. Implement robust accounting policies and processes, and ensure tax compliance and adherence to financial laws, guidelines and internal policies.

What You’ll Bring

You’ll be a commercially pragmatic leader who leads by example with integrity and sound judgement. You’ll communicate financial insight clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues alike, collaborate across teams, and stay resilient and adaptable when priorities shift and information is incomplete.

To hit the ground running in this role, you’ll need:

- 10+ years’ post-qualification experience as a CFO, Finance Director or senior finance executive.
- CA, CPA or equivalent qualification.
- Hands-on experience supporting capital raising in a high-growth business. That includes investor models, diligence, data rooms, valuation support, investor reporting and cap table management.
- Practical experience establishing, scaling or governing operations across multiple jurisdictions, ideally the US plus the UK and/or Europe, including entity structuring, transfer pricing, banking and payroll. We mean operating experience, not just group reporting or advisory work.
- Demonstrated experience scaling an Australian business from 70 to 200+ employees.
- Strong financial modelling, forecasting, cash-management and treasury capability, including delivering annual operating plans.
- The ability to move between Board-level strategy and practical detail,

and to give clear commercial advice to technical colleagues.
- Experience leading Board and Audit & Risk Committee reporting, consolidated financial statements and the external audit, with a sound understanding of Australian tax, ASIC and R&D; tax incentive obligations.
- A track record of building and leading high-performing finance teams in a growing business.

The following will also be highly regarded

- Aerospace, defence, space, deep tech, advanced manufacturing or another capital-intensive, regulated sector experience.
- Experience with long development cycles, R&D; investment, milestone-based contracts, government funding and manufacturing scale-up.
- Direct experience establishing or operating overseas entities, including the US.
- Familiarity with ITAR, EAR or other export control frameworks and their financial implications.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience.
- An affinity for lean start-up ways of working.
- US citizenship.
