The IBMA fosters a personalised environment, allowing students to develop skills and values to enable them to participate effectively in their chosen career field and the wider community.
Purpose of the job:
We are seeking a capable and service-focused full time IT Technician to provide practical technical support across IBMA’s computers, peripherals, approved applications, user accounts, network connections and web-based services. The successful applicant will assist staff and students by diagnosing faults, preparing and maintaining equipment, resolving routine technology issues and escalating higher-risk matters through the appropriate channels.
This is a hands-on support position suited to a technician who can work methodically, communicate clearly with users and maintain accurate technical and asset records in a regulated education environment.
Key roles and responsibilities
- Receive, assess and record technology support requests from staff and students, gather relevant information and provide progress updates through to resolution.
- Diagnose and resolve faults affecting desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, projectors, audio-visual equipment, peripherals, approved software, accounts and connectivity.
- Determine whether reported issues arise from hardware, software, configuration, network access or user practice, and apply the appropriate remedy or escalation pathway.
- Prepare and deploy computers and other devices by installing approved software, applying standard configurations, connecting peripherals and completing functional and security checks.
- Install authorised applications, updates, drivers and utilities in accordance with licensing requirements, change controls and IBMA procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance, including device health checks, patch verification, storage clean-up, peripheral testing and confirmation of endpoint-protection status.
- Repair, replace or coordinate the replacement of faulty components and peripheral equipment within delegated authority, warranty conditions and approved arrangements.
- Assist with the rollout, relocation and retirement of computers, printers, network-connected devices and classroom technology, including secure handling of stored information.
- Support wired and wireless connectivity by checking cabling, device connections, access points and basic network settings, and refer infrastructure faults when specialist assistance is required.
- Create, amend, suspend or remove user access only when properly authorised and in accordance with approved identity, password, multifactor authentication and least-privilege controls.
- Provide clear and practical guidance to users on approved applications, equipment, file handling, printing, connectivity and safe technology practices.
- Assist with routine upkeep of IBMA websites and online services, including approved content updates, link and display checks, form testing and referral of development issues.
- Test equipment, applications and web services after installation or change to confirm that they operate correctly and do not disrupt related services.
- Maintain accurate support tickets and records of devices, serial numbers, assignments, repairs, warranties, software installations, licences and disposal actions.
- Identify recurring faults and user concerns, and recommend practical improvements to instructions, configurations, equipment or support processes.
- Follow approved backup, recovery and incident procedures and promptly report suspected malware, phishing, unauthorised access, data exposure or unusual system behaviour.
- Protect confidential student, staff, financial and organisational information while using support tools, administrative access or handling devices.
- Coordinate routine warranty repairs, replacement parts, telecommunications matters and specialist support with approved vendors, and verify completion of agreed work.
- Keep ICT work areas, stored equipment, spare parts, tools and cables organised, secure and safe.
- Contribute to asset checks, ICT projects, staff briefings, service reviews, workplace health and safety activities and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate professional conduct, confidentiality and reliable service, and uphold IBMA’s policies, procedures and Code of Ethics.
Skills and Attributes we are looking for

- A methodical troubleshooting approach, with the ability to test likely causes and document solutions clearly.
- A strong customer-service mindset and the patience to assist users with different levels of technical confidence.
- Ability to explain technical steps in straightforward language without unnecessary jargon.
- Working knowledge of user access, endpoint security, software updates, malware awareness, backup concepts and safe information handling.

- Ability to recognise issues outside delegated authority or technical capability and escalate them promptly with useful diagnostic information.
- Professional integrity, discretion and reliability when handling confidential information, devices and privileged access.
- A collaborative, adaptable and learning-focused approach to technical support and continuous improvement.

- A master’s degree or higher qualification in information technology, computer science, information systems, cyber security, telecommunications or a related discipline is preferred.
- Must have at least one year on the job experience, demonstrating carriage of responsibility for an organisation’s technology planning, infrastructure, systems, service operations and security arrangements.
- Practical knowledge of privacy, cyber security, recordkeeping, software licensing, risk management, quality assurance and workplace health and safety obligations.
