This is a senior leadership role within AECOM’s national Building Engineering team, with a balance of team leadership and project delivery. You'll work across market-leading building projects in Australia,
provide technical direction to project teams, build strong client relationships and play an active role in proposals and work winning.
The role also provides an opportunity to help grow our structural engineering capability in Sydney and contribute to the wider national team.
How you'll make a difference:

- Act as Project Director on major projects, working closely with clients, consultants and project teams from concept through to delivery.
- Lead, mentor and develop the Sydney structural team, supporting the growth of senior and emerging engineers to help build future technical leaders
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to proposals, pursuits and work winning and helping grow AECOM’s structural engineering presence in Sydney and across ANZ.
- Share your technical knowledge and experience across the wider Building Engineering group, supporting consistent engineering standards and best practice.
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired,
but if you don't tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role.
The qualities that help you thrive:
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with ideally 20+ years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably within a consultancy environment.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia, or equivalent professional registration.
- Extensive experience delivering complex structural engineering projects, with strong knowledge of Australian codes, standards and design practices.
- Proven experience providing technical leadership, undertaking design and technical reviews, and leading multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Experience acting as a Project Director or in a similar senior project leadership role, with strong project and commercial management skills.
- Strong client-facing and communication skills, with a track record of building relationships, contributing to proposals and securing new work.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, with a focus on mentoring and developing structural engineers and future leaders.
- Solid working knowledge of industry-standard structural engineering software, such as SpaceGass, ETABS, RAPT and Strand7.
Why you'll love working with us:
- Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, full-time, part-time, job-sharing and hybrid work options
- Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
- Flex public holidays - swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
