Moonambel Primary School is a small rural government school situated in Victoria¿s Pyrenees district, approximately 20 kilometres from Avoca and 90 kilometres from Ballarat. Located on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, the school has served its community since 1875 and maintains a strong connection to the township and surrounding district.
Our motto, ¿Creating Bright Futures¿, reflects our commitment to helping every student develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed. We aim to nurture capable learners who participate positively in their community and approach new opportunities with curiosity and confidence.
The school provides education from Foundation to Year 6 across two composite classrooms: Foundation¿Year 2 and Years 3¿6. This setting enables staff to know students well, respond to individual learning needs and build strong relationships with families. Teachers work collaboratively to plan learning across year levels, providing targeted support and appropriate challenge within a cohesive school approach.
Teaching and learning are central to our improvement priorities. Recent work has focused on developing a whole-school Instructional Playbook and aligned planning processes to strengthen consistency in classroom practice. Our approach emphasises explicit teaching, clear explanations, modelling, guided practice, regular review and feedback. Literacy and numeracy are key priorities, with assessment informing teaching and the identification of students requiring additional support or extension.
Student wellbeing, engagement and inclusion underpin our work. Our values, Kind, Respectful and Responsible,
guide interactions and expectations across the school. We explicitly teach and reinforce positive behaviours and continue to strengthen consistent approaches to responding to student needs. Predictable routines, supportive relationships and individualised adjustments help students participate in learning and develop a sense of belonging.
Staff work with families, Student Support Services and external professionals to coordinate support where required. We value open communication and recognise the contribution of parents and carers to their children¿s learning, wellbeing and development.
Students participate in excursions, incursions and cluster activities with neighbouring schools. These experiences extend classroom learning, broaden students¿ connections and provide opportunities to learn and interact beyond their immediate school setting.
Moonambel Primary School offers staff the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution within a small rural community. Our setting requires collaboration, flexibility and a shared commitment to student learning and wellbeing. We value educators who build positive relationships, contribute to school improvement and bring high expectations and inclusive practice to their work. Together, we strive to ensure every student is known, supported and encouraged to achieve their potential.
