Eligibility:

Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence clearance at the level required for the position.

AIR6500, the RAAF’s $3 billion program delivering a fully networked joint air battle management system that will transform situational awareness, synchronise air and missile defence, and accelerate decision‑making across joint and coalition environments.

Join one of Australia's most significant Defence programs and contribute to the design and development of critical deployable hardware capabilities. Working within the AIR6500 Platforms IPT, you will play a key role in developing hardware solutions that support the delivery of advanced Defence systems, from platform and cabin design through to cooling analysis, testing and hardware integration.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to apply their expertise in design, analysis and testing while working alongside highly capable engineering teams. You'll enjoy challenging technical work, opportunities to mentor junior engineers, and the ability to make a meaningful contribution to a program that directly supports Australia's national security.

This opportunity is based in Mawson Lakes, SA.

- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, show initiative, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced project environment.
- Highly regarded: experience with configuration management principles and tools (such as EPDM), Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Defence or other regulated industries, and mentoring junior engineers.
- Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.
