Help Create Safer Communities Through Conversation, Judgement and Influence
At the City of Stirling, our Rangers are much more than law enforcement officers.
They are problem solvers, relationship builders and trusted community representatives who help people navigate challenging situations every day. We are looking for people who can listen first, make good decisions, de-escalate conflict and work collaboratively with residents, businesses and visitors to achieve practical and lasting outcomes.
This role will suit someone who is confident working in complex situations, comfortable operating in the grey, and able to balance legislative requirements with common sense, empathy and sound judgement.
If you believe that education, communication and positive community outcomes should come before enforcement wherever possible, we'd love to hear from you.
About the City of Stirling
The City of Stirling is Western Australia's largest local government, serving more than 243,000 residents across a diverse and vibrant community. Our Community Safety team plays a critical role in supporting safe neighbourhoods, protecting public spaces and helping residents navigate a wide range of community issues.
We are committed to building a team that reflects the community we serve and welcome applicants from a variety of professional backgrounds who can bring fresh thinking, diverse experiences and strong people skills.
Job Description
What You’ll Be Doing
Every day looks different.

Your focus will be on:
- Building positive relationships with residents, businesses and community groups
- Resolving concerns before they escalate into larger issues
- Investigating and responding to community safety requests and complaints
- Educating the community on local laws and responsible behaviour
- Supporting positive compliance through engagement, influence and problem solving
- Managing animal-related incidents and supporting animal welfare outcomes
- Undertaking patrols of parks, reserves, streets and community facilities
- Applying local laws and legislation fairly, consistently and professionally
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, emergency services and external stakeholders
- Using technology and reporting systems to support decision making and service delivery

- Resolve conflict professionally
- Influence positive behaviour through communication
- Are comfortable making decisions where there is no obvious right answer
- Balance community expectations with legislative requirements
- Achieve practical outcomes that benefit all parties
- Know when education and engagement are more effective than enforcement
