About us
At NORTH Foundation, we believe philanthropy has the power to transform healthcare. We work alongside clinicians, researchers and healthcare leaders across Northern Sydney to connect generous individuals, families and organisations with opportunities to make a meaningful difference to patients, families and the broader community. Guided by our values of Impact, Compassion, Collaboration, Integrity and Innovation, we are passionate about building meaningful relationships that help improve healthcare and health outcomes across our community.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Major Gifts Officer to play a pivotal role in advancing NORTH Foundation’s philanthropic mission. This is a relationship-centred, results-focused role responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors capable of making transformational gifts of six figures and above. You will build and manage your own portfolio of high-value prospects and donors, connecting their philanthropic interests with opportunities to support world-class healthcare research, clinical services and infrastructure across the Northern Sydney Local Health District. Working closely with the Fundraising and Philanthropy Manager, you will progress prospects through the full donor journey, develop compelling cases for support and lead meaningful gift conversations that connect donor values with healthcare outcomes that matter. A key part of the role will be partnering with Northern Sydney Local Health District clinicians, researchers and hospital leadership to identify funding priorities and develop compelling cases for philanthropic investment across the full breadth of NORTH Foundation’s work. You will also:
• Build and manage a strong portfolio of major gift prospects and donors,
developing tailored strategies to progress relationships through the full donor cycle
• Lead face-to-face donor meetings, site visits and engagement activities to deepen relationships and build giving intent
• Develop compelling proposals, presentations and gift agreements aligned with donor interests and priorities
• Create individualised stewardship plans that keep donors informed, valued and connected to the impact of their support
• Work collaboratively with clinicians, researchers and operational leaders to identify compelling, fundable priorities
• Partner with Marketing and Communications to develop high-quality proposals, impact reports and donor-facing materials
• Maintain accurate CRM records and strong pipeline, forecasting and reporting practices. About you You are an experienced major gifts fundraiser who understands that transformational philanthropy is built on trust, credibility and long-term relationships. You combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution and have a proven track record of cultivating and securing significant philanthropic gifts. You are comfortable engaging with major donors at the highest level and equally confident working with senior clinicians and researchers to translate complex priorities into compelling cases for support. You will bring:
• Demonstrated experience in major gift fundraising, philanthropy, development or high-value donor relations, ideally within health, medical research, education or the not-for-profit sector
• A track record of personally managing a portfolio of major donors and securing significant philanthropic gifts
• Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to translate complex clinical or scientific information into compelling and credible donor narratives
• Strong strategic and analytical thinking, judgement and attention to detail
• Knowledge of major gift fundraising principles, including moves management, the donor cycle, gift agreements and stewardship best practice
• Strong CRM capability and a commitment to rigorous data management
• The ability to work independently, show initiative and thrive in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder workplace. Most importantly, you will bring a genuine commitment to improving health outcomes and an understanding that major gift fundraising is not simply a transaction. It is a long-term partnership built on trust, impact and a shared belief in what philanthropy can make possible. Why join NORTH Foundation? At NORTH Foundation, you’ll have the opportunity to do meaningful work alongside a passionate and collaborative team, connecting philanthropy with healthcare initiatives that can make a real difference to patients, families and the wider community.
