About the Role
An established, values-driven not-for-profit organisation is seeking a capable Payroll Officer/Administrator to join its team on an immediate temporary basis.
Reporting to the Senior Payroll Officer, you’ll provide hands-on payroll administration and process support, helping ensure payroll requirements, employee changes and timesheet information are managed accurately and efficiently.
The role has become available following an internal staff change and will initially provide support while the organisation recruits for a permanent appointment. While the immediate requirement is temporary, there may be scope for the assignment to transition into a permanent opportunity for the right person.
Please note, the position is office-based, with no formal work-from-home arrangement available. Remuneration will be aligned with the relevant SCHADS Award classification, approximately Level 3.4–4.2 depending on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end payroll administration and processing support, including assisting with the commencement and preparation of pay runs.
- Collate timesheets, follow up on missing information and ensure employee hours are accurately recorded.
- Process payroll variations, employee changes and updates, including applicable SCHADS Award rate amendments.
- Assist with smaller pay runs covering approximately 8–9 employees, with potential to undertake additional processing responsibilities.
- Support Single Touch Payroll (STP) lodgements and superannuation preparation.
- Manage the payroll inbox, triaging incoming requests and ensuring key matters are escalated to the Senior Payroll Officer.
- Provide administrative support for HR onboarding and employee documentation.
- Assist with general payroll process administration, record keeping and resolving payroll-related queries.
Skills, Experience and Qualities
- Previous experience in payroll administration, payroll support or a similar role is essential.
- Strong administrative skills, with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to managing information.
- Familiarity with the SCHADS Award and its pay rate structures would be highly regarded.
- Experience supporting HR onboarding processes and maintaining employee records would be advantageous.
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to follow up on outstanding information and respond to incoming requests.
- Coachable nature, with an eagerness to learn and comfortability with frequent change
Benefits and Culture
- Flexible working arrangements: Full-time or four days per week, depending on your availability and the organisation’s requirements.
- Flexible hours: Some flexibility around start and finish times to support work-life balance.
- Potential for permanency: An initial temporary assignment with the possibility of a permanent opportunity for the right person.
- Supportive team environment: Work closely with an experienced Senior Payroll Officer and contribute to a collaborative team.
