If you’ve built solid corporate tax experience and want a role where automation and AI are part of the job, this one is worth a look.
You’ll join the in-house tax team of a large Australian business that’s part of an ASX-listed group. You’ll work across the full range of taxes, not just one corner of compliance. About 60% of the role is compliance and 40% is advisory and project work. You’ll report to the Head of Tax and work day to day with an experienced Tax Manager who’s happy to mentor.
About the Role:
Reporting into the Head of Tax, the key responsibilities include:
- Prepare income tax returns, workpapers and schedules for a group of entities, reviewed by the Tax Manager and Head of Tax
- Look after tax effect accounting calculations and reconciliations, and reconcile tax general ledger balances
- Help with monthly income tax instalments and tax cashflow forecasting
- Review the tax treatment of fixed assets, including capital allowances and repairs and maintenance
- Coordinate R&D; Tax Incentive claims with the business and external advisers
- Review monthly BAS, run GST data analytics and assurance testing, and support the annual GST return
- Own the annual FBT return workpapers
- Support payroll tax and superannuation compliance, including employee and contractor classification
- Contribute to group reporting, including Pillar Two, country-by-country reporting and tax transparency
- Work on advisory projects, including M&A; due diligence and integration
- Support ATO and state revenue authority reviews, and keep tax governance and process documents up to date
- Use AI and data analytics to test transaction data for exceptions and make processes faster and more accurate
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
- Around 3–6 years of Australian corporate tax experience, from Big 4, mid-tier or in-house
- Hands-on experience across income tax, GST and FBT, plus tax effect accounting and tax consolidation
- CA or CPA qualified, or well progressed
- Strong Excel skills. Experience with tax preparation software and a large ERP will help, but the specific systems aren’t essential
- Confidence working with lots of different people across a business
- Examples of improving a process, automating a task or using AI tools
Your current title matters less than your experience. If you’re a Tax Senior or Assistant Manager in practice with broad exposure, or ready for a step up, we’d like to hear from you. The role suits people with Australian working rights who live in Sydney.
What Is In It For You:
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
- A tax function that’s actively investing in data, automation and AI, and wants you to help shape it
- Broad exposure you’d rarely get in a bigger team: R&D;, Pillar Two, M&A;, audits and advisory
- Mentoring from an experienced Tax Manager and a clear path toward Tax Manager or specialist roles
- A robust package for the level
