The Business
Our client is an established Australian consumer goods business with a strong portfolio of well-known brands. They’re commercially driven, fast-paced and practical, with a culture where initiative is recognised, challenge is welcomed and people are trusted to get things done. It’s an environment where finance professionals who pitch in and own outcomes get noticed.
The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this is a true all-rounder role that sits across the whole of Finance. You’ll partner with Sales on analysis, budgeting and forecasting, support the Finance team with reconciliations and month-end, and take a hands-on role in the systems that sit behind the numbers.
This isn’t a role for someone who wants to stay in one lane. One day you’ll be digging into promotion results with an account manager, the next you’ll be cleaning up data, improving a report or helping bed in a system change as the business grows. If you like getting your hands dirty and seeing a job through from the ledger to the sales floor, you’ll thrive here.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Completing daily bank reconciliations and intercompany loan reconciliations
- Preparing journal entries with accuracy and attention to detail
- Supporting the Finance team through the month-end close
- Providing backup support across Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable as needed
- Analysing sales, margin, product and cost data to identify trends, risks and growth opportunities
- Leading the annual sales budget process in partnership with account managers
- Running regular forecast reviews with national account managers
- Measuring major promotions against budget and reporting clearly on what worked
- Monitoring product performance across key retail customers and flagging underperformers early
- Taking ownership of the sales forecasting and reporting systems, including data integrity, cleansing and ongoing maintenance
- Helping implement system and data structure changes as the business evolves, such as new channels and currencies
- Building and improving reports, scorecards and dashboards that drive action, not just information
- Identifying process improvements and getting them over the line
- Taking on special projects and ad hoc requests as the business needs
What You’ll Bring
- A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce or similar, with at least 2 years’ relevant experience
- CA or CPA qualified or studying towards it is preferred
- A solid accounting foundation, including strong reconciliation skills and experience with journals and month-end
- Solid analytical and reporting skills, with intermediate to advanced Excel
- A practical, hands-on mindset and a willingness to dive into systems and data
- Experience with a financial software package, plus FMCG exposure, will set you apart
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive, self-motivated style with the confidence to work independently and influence Sales and senior stakeholders
If you’re a curious, hands-on finance professional who wants variety, ownership and real commercial exposure, we’d love to hear from you.
