A well-established power infrastructure contractor delivering transmission, distribution and substation projects for utilities and major industry is growing its pre-contracts team. Two Senior Estimator positions are available, one focused on transmission lines and one on substations.
The role
You’ll lead estimates and tenders from first review through to sign-off, working closely with the Estimating/Pre-Contracts Manager, operations, suppliers and subcontractors. You’ll also mentor and review the work of the Estimators in the team.
Day to day you’ll:
- Review drawings, specifications and tender documents to build time, labour, material and cost estimates
- Run multiple bids at once and deliver accurate, competitive tenders on deadline
- Sign off on the technical, commercial and financial sides of each bid
- Build and maintain cost databases, rates and supplier and subcontractor directories
- Prepare subcontractor and vendor packages and help set terms
- Review schedules of rates quarterly with Operations
- Attend tender briefings and support negotiations
- Keep across market,
pricing and regulatory trends that affect cost
What you’ll bring
- At least 3 years in a senior estimating role, ideally in transmission lines (overhead and/or underground) or HV substations, depending on the role you apply for
- Background in utilities, construction or resources
- Solid experience with cost estimating software and strong Excel skills
- Confidence reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Solid attention to detail and comfort with tight deadlines
- Good relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
- A sound safety record and working knowledge of WHS
- Current National Police Clearance and a C Class licence
Construction management, trade or project management qualifications are a plus, as are a current CPR and Senior First Aid certificate.
