Project Manager - Civil Infrastructure and HDD About the Role
Maxibor Australia is seeking a practical, hands-on Project Manager to join our team based at Jacobs Well, Queensland.
Maxibor is a specialist horizontal directional drilling contractor delivering trenchless infrastructure projects throughout Queensland and New South Wales.
This position would suit a Project Manager with approximately two to five years' civil construction or infrastructure experience who is looking to broaden their project delivery experience within a specialist contractor.
The successful candidate will independently manage allocated projects from planning and mobilisation through to completion and close-out. The number, size and complexity of projects allocated will reflect the person's experience.
This is a hands-on project delivery position rather than a senior management or departmental leadership role. The Project Manager will work closely with Maxibor's operations, estimating, commercial and HSEQ personnel while remaining responsible for the day-to-day management of their allocated projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage allocated HDD and civil infrastructure projects from award through to practical completion and close-out.
- Develop and maintain practical project programs, budgets, resource plans and cost forecasts.
- Coordinate drilling crews, project personnel, specialist plant, subcontractors, suppliers and materials.
- Plan project mobilisations and confirm that sites are ready for Maxibor's crews and equipment.
- Liaise with clients, principal contractors, engineers, consultants and project stakeholders.
- Review project drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contractual requirements.
- Understand and administer the contracts for allocated projects, including scope, responsibilities, exclusions, notices, variations, extensions of time and payment claims.
- Monitor project productivity, costs and performance against the approved program and budget.
- Identify delays, variations, latent conditions and other project issues and ensure the required records and notices are prepared.
- Prepare progress reports, cost reports, forecasts and other required project reporting.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, productivity, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
- Work with Maxibor's HSEQ team to ensure compliance with company systems, client requirements and applicable legislation.
- Coordinate permits, inspections, quality records, daily reports and completion documentation.
- Manage day-to-day technical, operational and commercial issues and escalate significant matters when required.
- Maintain effective working relationships with clients, site personnel, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Participate in tender handovers, project start-up meetings and lessons-learned reviews.
- Ensure allocated projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
Qualifications and Experience
- Approximately two to five years' experience in civil construction or infrastructure project delivery.
- Experience managing or taking day-to-day responsibility for civil construction projects.
- Qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline are preferred.
- Experience in HDD, trenchless construction, pipelines, utilities or major civil works would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Working knowledge of construction programs, budgets, cost control and resource planning.
- Practical experience reviewing construction contracts and managing project documentation.
- Exposure to variations, delay notices, extensions of time and progress claims.
- Ability to identify project and contractual risks and escalate significant issues when required.
- Solid organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence communicating with site personnel, clients, subcontractors and management.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and project planning or project management software.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality and environmental compliance.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Willingness to travel to project sites throughout Queensland and New South Wales when required.
