- STEAM Education Teacher Department of Education Victoria – Preston VIC 1d ago , from Department of Education & Training Victoria At Newlands Primary School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in a learning environment where they are known, challenged and supported. Our vision is to develop curious, confident and compassionate learners who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and character to make a positive difference in the world. Our school values of Care, Creativity, Responsibility, Growth and Community are at the heart of everything we do. They shape the relationships we build, the decisions we make and the culture we have created together. Whether in the classroom, the playground or the wider community, our students are encouraged to strive for excellence while supporting those around them. Located in the heart of Preston West within the City of Darebin, Newlands Primary School is Australia's only Spanish bilingual government primary school. Through our internationally recognised bilingual program, students learn in both English and Spanish from Foundation to Year 6, developing high levels of language proficiency while strengthening their thinking, problem-solving and intercultural understanding. As an accredited International Spanish Academy, we are proud to provide students with a truly unique educational experience that prepares them for an increasingly connected world. Our school grounds offer a diverse range of learning and play spaces, including extensive playgrounds, outdoor learning areas, sporting facilities, vegetable gardens and flexible classroom environments that support collaboration, creativity and student wellbeing. At Newlands, academic excellence is balanced with a strong commitment to student wellbeing.
Our evidence-informed teaching practices focus on explicit instruction, high expectations and regular opportunities for students to experience success. Alongside our classroom programs, students participate in specialist learning in Physical Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and our dedicated Wellbeing program, ensuring every child develops academically, socially and emotionally. Learning extends well beyond the classroom. Students have opportunities to participate in camps, excursions, sporting competitions, productions, leadership programs, before-school clubs, cultural celebrations and a growing range of extracurricular activities including basketball, tennis, wrestling, dance and other community partnerships that encourage students to discover new passions. Our Out of School Hours Care program provides high-quality before and after school care delivered by qualified educators in a safe, welcoming environment that supports the needs of our families. One of Newlands' greatest strengths is its community. Families are genuine partners in their children's education and contribute to school life in countless ways through volunteering, School Council, the Parents and Friends Association, bilingual initiatives and cultural celebrations. Together, we have built a school that values diversity, celebrates inclusion and fosters a solid sense of belonging for every student and family. Over recent years,
