Join the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) as an Investigator –within the Investigations and Compliance Unit. The team and play a key role in delivering evidence-based investigations that make a real impact on safety and accountability across Australia’s heavy vehicle industry. We have 2 roles available based at Parramatta.

As an Investigator, you will support all stages of Investigations, from evidence collection and stakeholder interviews through to preparing briefs for enforcement or prosecution. You will conduct high-quality, evidence-based investigations into serious breaches of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) involving executive officers, corporate entities, and other parties in the Chain of Responsibility.

Working under the direction of the Manager, Investigations and Safety Compliance unit, and with the guidance and mentoring of a Senior Investigator, you will be part of a collaborative and professional team committed to achieving compliance excellence. This role contributes to both incident-based and systemic investigations that support NHVR’s risk-based regulatory approach and help improve safety outcomes across the heavy vehicle sector.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

- Conduct investigations into serious HVNL breaches involving incident-based breaches, high-risk behaviours, patterns of non-compliance, or system-level safety failures.
- Gather and analyse evidence from diverse sources including digital records, interviews, site inspections, and intelligence reports.




- Support the preparation of enforcement documentation including briefs of evidence, witness statements, records of interviews and investigation reports.
- Assist in undertaking interviews and applying statutory powers in accordance with legal, ethical and procedural standards.
- Ensure investigation activities are recorded accurately and securely using NHVR’s case management systems.
- Work collaboratively with law enforcement, prosecutors and other NHVR teams to support high-quality regulatory outcomes.
- Escalate complex issues, case risks, or legislative ambiguities to the Senior Investigator for review and resolution.
- Participate in debriefings, peer reviews and capability-building activities as part of the national Major Investigations function.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and procedural integrity across all investigations.
- Adhere to NHVR internal policies, procedures, WHS obligations, and ethical standards.
