Trade Assistant – Transport Refrigeration Installations
Immediate Start: We are looking for a reliable, motivated and mechanically minded Trade Assistants to join our growing team, specialising in the installation of transport refrigeration systems on commercial trucks and trailers. Working alongside experienced refrigeration technicians, you will assist with the installation of Carrier refrigeration equipment on a variety of commercial vehicles, including rigid trucks, refrigerated delivery vehicles and semi-trailers. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys working with tools, takes pride in quality workmanship and wants to develop specialist skills in a technical industry.
We have two positions open for our sites at Altona & Ballarat.
Key responsibilities
Assist with the installation of transport refrigeration units on new trucks and trailers.
Fit and mount refrigeration units, brackets, supports and associated components.
Measure, mark, drill, cut and secure components to vehicle bodies and chassis.
Install refrigeration pipework, hoses, conduits and protective coverings.
Assist with routing and securing electrical wiring harnesses and control cables.
Fit associated components, including evaporators, condensate drains and mounting hardware.
Carry out basic mechanical assembly and fabrication work.
Assist qualified technicians with system preparation, testing and commissioning.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop setting.
Ensure installations are completed to a consistently high standard and within allocated timeframes.
About you
Previous experience as a Trade Assistant, mechanical fitter's assistant, automotive accessory installer or similar.
Confidence using hand tools, cordless power tools and workshop equipment.
Good mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to read measurements accurately and follow installation instructions.
Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
A strong work ethic and ability to work efficiently.
Willingness to learn new skills and take on responsibility.
A current driver's licence.
Ability to work safely at heights using appropriate access equipment.
