About the role The role of a medical receptionist is wide-ranging, at times challenging but always rewarding.

Weekend and evening availability is a must as is general flexibility to cover a wide range of shifts across our opening hours.

Main Duties and responsibilities

Greeting, assisting and registering new patients,

Handling telephone enquiries and making appointments

Processing payments and Medicare claims

Helping patients in distress by responding to emergencies.

Protecting patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information

Maintaining operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.

Following up on outstanding results and correspondence

Assisting with accounts

Maintaining professional rapport with all patients and health professionals





Any duties requested of the employee by a doctor or a senior staff member

Any other duties as requested by the practice manager

Ensuring the reception area is well maintained, neat and clean.

Essential skills and experience Reliability with a strong work ethic

Ability to work under pressure and in a fast paced environment

Ability to prioritise and multitask

Excellent communication skills and telephone manner

Self motivated and proactive

Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment

Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn

Flexibility with hours and days

Knowledge of general administrative duties

Desirable skills and experience

Previous experience in the medical industry

Experience with medical software Best Practice and/or AutoMed

Uniform supplied
