- Set software engineering standards across architecture, development, testing, integration and deployment.
- Provide technical leadership on software architecture and design decisions.
- Partner with Hardware and Systems Engineering to develop integrated products.
- Work closely with Advanced Development to transition prototypes and emerging technology into robust software capability.
- Establish a deliberate, predictable software release process, with clear visibility of what is changing, what is being released and what is not yet production-ready.
- Introduce staged releases and appropriate levels of testing, from development and integration through to system-level and production validation.
- Establish clear configuration management across different hardware configurations and product variants.
- Ensure work is appropriately scoped and managed where features are built but are not immediately intended for production release.
- Ensure software is designed with the performance, reliability, security and real-time requirements of the physical system in mind.
- Build effective engineering practices across testing, CI/CD, version control, configuration and release management.
What we're looking for
- Significant experience leading software engineering teams and technical leaders.
- Strong software engineering depth and the ability to engage in architecture and technical discussions.
- Experience developing software that interacts with hardware, sensors, electronics, robotics or physical systems.
- Experience building engineering capability in a growing technology environment.
- Solid understanding of software architecture, development, testing, integration and deployment.
- Experience establishing structured release, configuration and change management practices.
- A practical leadership style with the ability to balance technical quality, speed and delivery.
- Comfortable operating through Team Leads and creating accountability across multiple multidisciplinary teams.
- Embedded software / Embedded Linux
- Real-time or edge computing
- Defence, aerospace, robotics or autonomous systems
- C++, Rust and/or Python
- AI/ML, computer vision or sensor processing
- Safety-, security- or mission-critical systems
An opportunity to build the software engineering capability of a growing Australian deep-tech company working at the intersection of AI, sensing, software, hardware and autonomous systems.
