The Wave is a generational infrastructure project that will revolutionise travel on and around the Sunshine Coast, creating a seamless public transport network that will help to shape the region and unlock new housing and economic opportunities. The Wave includes passenger heavy rail from Beerwah to Birtinya, connecting with a metro-style service to allow journeys to the Sunshine Coast Airport via Mountain Creek and Maroochydore CBD. The Wave (Rail) branch will deliver Stages 1 and 2 of The Wave. Stage 1 includes a new rail line from Beerwah to Caloundra. With $5.5 billion committed towards Stage 1 delivery, design and pre-construction activities are underway and major construction is proposed to start in 2027, subject to approvals.
