About the Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Estimator to join our metal fabrication and engineering business in Orange, NSW.

Working closely with management, engineering and workshop personnel, you will prepare accurate and competitive quotations for a diverse range of fabrication and engineering projects. Your practical understanding of workshop operations, materials and labour requirements will be essential in ensuring our estimates are commercially competitive and achievable.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical knowledge, problem-solving and commercial thinking in a hands-on engineering setting.

Key Responsibilities

- Review and interpret engineering drawings, plans and technical specifications.

- Prepare detailed cost estimates and quotations for metal fabrication and engineering projects.

- Calculate material quantities, labour hours, subcontractor costs and other project expenses.

- Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor pricing.

- Liaise with customers to clarify project requirements and scope.

- Identify project risks, cost variations and opportunities to improve margins.

- Prepare tender submissions and follow up on outstanding quotations.





- Work with management and the workshop team to ensure estimates reflect practical manufacturing requirements.

- Maintain accurate estimating records and support effective project handover to production.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

- Previous estimating experience in metal fabrication, engineering, manufacturing or a related industry.

- The ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.

- A sound understanding of fabrication processes, materials, welding and workshop operations.

- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent attention to detail and time management.

- The ability to manage multiple quotations and competing deadlines.

- Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

- Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating software.

A background in fabrication, fitting and machining, mechanical engineering or a related trade will be highly regarded.
