About the role
An established retail business is looking for a Senior Infrastructure & Security Engineer to own the reliability, security and resilience of its on-premise infrastructure, at an exciting point in its technology transformation. This hands-on role combines deep infrastructure engineering (servers, virtualisation, identity, storage, backup and DR) with security operations (monitoring, detection, incident response and security tooling). You’ll lead infrastructure improvement work, vulnerability management and security alert triage across a multi-site retail environment. What you’ll do
• Own day-to-day infrastructure operations across servers, VMware/Hyper-V, Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, DNS, DHCP and core network services across all sites
• Run patching, configuration and lifecycle activities under change management
• Lead remediation of penetration test findings, from triage through to verified closure
• Own the vulnerability management cycle: scan, prioritise, remediate, and report residual risk weekly
• Triage security alerts from CrowdStrike Falcon, Mimecast, Netskope and ADAudit Plus within ITIL workflows
• Manage Veeam backup and recovery and keep DR ready through regular failover testing, including SAN environments
• Drive on-premise to cloud migrations, from workload assessment and wave planning through to execution and validation
• Build runbooks and SOPs so no platform depends on a single person, and cross-train Operations Engineers




• Take part in change management, technical risk assessments and the on-call roster, working under least-privilege and PIM models What you’ll bring
• 10+ years of hands-on infrastructure and security experience in a multi-site environment (retail, FMCG or logistics preferred)
• Deep experience with Active Directory, Entra ID, Windows Server and Microsoft 365
• Proven end-to-end on-premise to cloud migration experience
• Solid multi-site networking

skills:
Fortinet firewalls, SD-WAN, VLANs, VPNs and Wi-Fi
• Enterprise storage and backup experience, including SAN and Veeam, Rubrik or Zerto
• Demonstrated vulnerability management and pen-test remediation experience
• Hands-on experience with CrowdStrike, Mimecast, Netskope and identity protection tools
• Solid PowerShell skills. Exposure to infrastructure as code (ARM, Bicep or Terraform) is valued
• Azure or AWS certifications (AZ-104, AZ-500, AWS Solutions Architect) are highly regarded
