Be Bold. Belong. Be More.
At Southern Cross University, we do things differently, and so can you.
A career with us is more than you might expect. Yes, it’s about the heart, connectedness and community you’d hope for in a regional university. But there’s also so much more. Our game changing Southern Cross Model brings a deeper, focused learning experience and our research is deeply connected to our regions, making a difference on a global scale. This is your chance to help us build something recent and meaningful for our students, our communities and your career. To drive change, make a real impact, and thrive in a place as unique as you.
You can be good anywhere. Here, you can be great.
Your opportunity
Join our Coffs Harbour campus as a Facilities Officer (General) and play a hands-on role in keeping our workplace safe, functional and well presented. From tackling minor repairs and general maintenance to responding to work requests and coordinating contractors, you’ll help create an environment where our students and staff can thrive.
This is a varied, practical role where initiative, sound judgement and the ability to juggle competing priorities are essential. Working with University staff, contractors and our campus partners, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the day-to-day campus experience.
You will make an impact by:
- Completing general maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, finishes & furniture around campus, and triaging when specialist support is needed.
- Assessing and prioritising maintenance requests, responding promptly to faults and ensuring safety issues are addressed appropriately.
- Coordinating contractors and working collaboratively with University staff, TAFE NSW, Coffs Harbour Senior College and other campus stakeholders to keep work moving.
- Supporting campus operations through grounds maintenance, equipment and furniture setups, deliveries and general facilities support.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records,
completing safety checks and following safe work practices across all tasks.
What you will bring
You’re a practical, hands-on problem solver who enjoys variety and takes pride in a job well done. You’re comfortable working independently, can adapt when priorities change and know how to balance getting things done with working safely. You can assess a situation, determine what needs attention first and recognise when a job requires a licensed trade or specialist contractor.
To succeed in this role, you will also need:
- Experience in general maintenance, facilities support, grounds, logistics, or a similar hands-on environment, with the practical ability to safely complete minor repairs.
- Sound judgement, initiative and the confidence to work autonomously while knowing when to seek advice or escalate an issue.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of clients, contractors and staff.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety principles, including the ability to apply risk controls, safe work practices and relevant safety documentation.
- Computing skills, including the ability to use computer-based systems to record maintenance activities, update work requests and maintain accurate records.
- It's not essential, but a trade qualification or exposure to plumbing, carpentry, or similar is highly desirable.
