The Steel Distribution All-Rounder is responsible for supporting the efficient day-to-day operations of Newcastle Steel Distributors. The position involves a combination of warehouse and yard operations, customer service, sales support, steel processing, stock management and deliveries. The employee is expected to work safely, efficiently and cooperatively, assisting across different areas of the business as operational requirements change. The role requires a practical, hands-on approach, good customer service skills, attention to detail and a willingness to undertake a variety of duties.
Key responsibilities
- Pick, pack and prepare steel products in accordance with customer orders
- Load and unload trucks, delivery vehicles and customer vehicles safely
- Receive incoming stock and verify quantities against delivery documentation
- Store, stack and organise steel products in designated locations
- Measure, mark and cut steel products to customer specifications
- Operate approved steel cutting and processing equipment following appropriate training and authorisation
- Greet customers and assist with enquiries at the sales counter
- Answer incoming telephone calls and respond to customer enquiries
- Assist with local deliveries using company vehicles where appropriately licensed and authorised
- Operate forklifts where appropriately licensed and authorised
About you
- Current MR driver's licence as a minimum.
- Reliable and punctual attendance
- Good verbal communication and customer service skills
- Basic literacy, numeracy and measurement skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Ability to safely undertake the physical requirements of the position
- Willingness to learn current tasks and develop skills
- Commitment to safe work practices
- Forklift high-risk work licence (desirable)
- Previous experience in steel distribution, warehousing or manufacturing (desirable)
