Bank First
Hawthorn East
12 Month Contract Role
Yours for the making.
Forget what you think you know about banking. We do things differently here. We exist to back teachers and nurses - building a bank designed entirely around them.
We're a customer-owned Australian bank with a clear purpose: making every money moment better. While our organisation has evolved, that deep connection to our purpose is stronger than ever. And now, we're scaling new heights. We're more than a bank - we're building something that gives back in real, everyday ways.
The Difference You'll Make
As Compliance Manager, you'll play a critical role in helping Bank First confidently navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment. You'll lead the ongoing evolution of the Bank's end-to-end compliance framework, ensuring regulatory obligations are understood, managed and embedded across the organisation. Working closely with senior leaders and business teams, you'll provide strategic advice, oversight and challenge to support effective risk and compliance outcomes.
This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional compliance monitoring and become a trusted advisor to the business. You'll influence decision-making, drive regulatory uplift initiatives and help shape how compliance supports our strategic ambitions, ensuring we continue to operate with integrity, accountability and a strong focus on member outcomes.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise across the end-to-end compliance framework with a pragmatic and partnership-focused approach. You'll be comfortable challenging constructively, influencing stakeholders at all levels and providing clear, actionable advice in complex situations.
As part of our second-line Compliance & Regulatory team,
you'll be partnering with senior leaders across the bank to drive a strong culture of compliance and manage the enterprise compliance framework including policy governance, assurance activities, regulatory change, regulatory engagements, breach assessments, obligations management and Board/committee reporting.
You'll enjoy building trusted relationships across the organisation and helping leaders confidently navigate regulatory obligations while balancing commercial outcomes and member interests.
You'll Also Bring
- 8 years minimum experience in compliance, legal, regulatory advisory or consulting roles within financial services, with strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g. ASIC, APRA, AML/CTF, OAIC) and industry codes.
- Proven experience managing end-to-end compliance frameworks, including obligations management, policy governance, assurance programs, second-line reviews, regulatory change and breach management processes.
- Strong capability in interpreting regulatory change and providing practical, risk-based advice to senior stakeholders.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with experience reporting to executives, committees, boards and regulators.
- A proactive and strategic mindset, with the ability to drive regulatory uplift initiatives and foster a robust culture of compliance across the organisation.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as law or commence (desirable)
