About Alligator Energy

At Alligator Energy, we are shaping the future of Australia's uranium industry.

We are a uranium-focused project development and exploration company building a portfolio of high-quality projects across multiple jurisdictions, with clear pathways toward approval, development and long-term production. We are growing, and we're doing it with people who care about getting it right: creative, collaborative and committed to responsible resource development.

Right now, we are at the stage where safety can be built into how we work from day one, rather than bolted on later. That's where you come in.

The Role

This is a rare chance to build and own a health and safety function from the ground up. As our Health and Safety Lead, you'll set the direction, shape the systems and, most importantly, shape the safety culture. You'll be the person who owns safety at Alligator Energy.

You'll be out on site, talking to the crew, walking the job and seeing the risks first-hand. You'll also be in the room with our leaders and executives, building their understanding, challenging their thinking and helping them see safety as a shared responsibility and a driver of how we operate, not a compliance exercise.

The position can be based in Adelaide (with regular Whyalla travel) or in Whyalla.

What you'll do

- Own and build our Safety Management System (SMS), and make it practical, fit for purpose and used on site

- Be a visible, hands-on presence in the field, running inspections and audits, verifying critical controls and following up corrective actions

- Educate, coach and influence senior leaders and executives so they understand their obligations and lead from the front on safety

- Lead radiation safety and controls, working to build capability across the business

- Lead investigations into incidents and high-potential events, and turn the learnings into lasting improvements

- Provide leadership in risk assessments, and maintain risk registers that drive real decisions

- Ensure compliance with the WHS Act and Regulations, coordinating statutory and regulatory reporting

- Deliver inductions, training and competency support that people actually remember

- Strengthen emergency preparedness through drills and response capability on site

What we offer

- A permanent, full-time role with genuine ownership and the freedom to build something from scratch

- Direct access to senior leadership and the chance to influence how a growing company approaches safety

- Competitive remuneration and employee incentives

- Opportunities for professional development and growth as the company grows

- A supportive team culture, united by our vision and values

- City fringe location with carparking provided (frequent travel to Whyalla required)

What you'll bring

Essential

- Genuine passion for safety and a drive to make a difference, not just tick boxes

- The confidence to take ownership of a function and the resilience to build it from the ground up

- Credibility on site and in the boardroom: you're comfortable getting amongst it in the field and equally at ease educating and influencing senior leaders

- Relevant qualification in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline

- 7–10 years' experience in mining, with a strong working knowledge of the WHS Act

- Radiation Safety Officer experience

- Current First Aid certification

Desirable

- Experience in uranium in-situ recovery operations

- Experience with the Donesafe safety management system

How to apply

Send us your resume and a covering letter (maximum two pages) telling us what draws you to this role and how you meet the criteria above.

Apply without delay, as screening will commence immediately. Only successful applicants will be contacted. Resumes submitted via recruiters will not be accepted.
