About the Opportunities

The agency is undergoing a period of significant change and growth, with recent responsibilities and expanded scope of schemes, such as the Cheaper Home Batteries initiative, Guarantee of Origin scheme and the Nature Repair Market. The agency has also been appointed as the preferred regulator for distributed energy products, also known as consumer energy resources. With a variety of roles on offer we are searching for candidates who can demonstrate capability in a variety of different areas.

Information about all the schemes we administer, as well as our publications, can be found on our website.

Scheme Operations Division

Our Scheme Operations Division enables entry and participation in the schemes administered by the agency. Staff assess applications and make statutory decisions on client scheme entitlements. The division works collaboratively across the agency to ensure efficient and effective administration of all schemes.

Scheme Support Division

The Scheme Support Division supports the agency to resolve complex issues, advocate for legislative and policy change, screen and monitor client behaviour, address serious non-compliance and improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Consumer energy national technical regulator

The Australian Government, in partnership with state and territory governments, has developed a national framework for regulating consumer energy resources. We are preparing to take on the role of the Consumer Energy Resources National Technical Regulator under the framework, subject to legislation. The new regulatory framework will give consumers greater confidence in their devices, helping them get more value from their energy systems. The framework sets out roles for us as the Consumer Energy National Technical Regulator, including registering suppliers, installers and products; collecting information about installed devices; and monitoring compliance.

Current Opportunities

There are immediate and anticipated vacancies available across a range of sections within the agency.

Immediate Vacancies

Carbon Markets branch

Immediate vacancies are available within the Environmental Markets Analysis section and the Renewable Energy Markets section in the Carbon Markets branch. The role of the Carbon Markets branch is to provide authoritative,

evidence-based insights on economic carbon markets to support effective outcomes for the schemes the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) administers and provide strategic policy analysis and support for the agency. The branch analyses all of the schemes administered by the CER.

The Environmental Markets Analysis section delivers authoritative, evidence-based insights on Australia’s environmental markets, specifically the Safeguard Mechanism, Australian Carbon Credit Unit, Nature Repair Market, and Product Guarantee of Origin schemes, undertakes research and analysis on industrial decarbonisation, the Safeguard Mechanism, and transition to a net zero economy. The team delivers the environmental markets analysis for the CER’s flagship market intelligence publication, the Quarterly Carbon Market Report, and builds, maintains and enhances in-house models of the Australian Carbon Credit Unit and Safeguard Mechanism Scheme.

The Renewable Energy Market Analysis section provides data, analysis and insights on renewable electricity markets administered by the CER, including the Renewable Energy Target, the Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin and the Consumer Energy National Technical Regulator. The section delivers evidence-based analysis on market trends, certificate markets and technology uptake of large- and small-scale renewable technologies and storage, supporting the Quarterly Carbon Market Report, policy development and decision-making.

Geospatial, Analytics and Reporting section

Immediate vacancies are available for Geospatial and Data Specialists within the Geospatial, Analytics and Reporting section. The Geospatial, Analytics and Reporting section supports Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme data and geospatial analysis capabilities that deliver reporting and analytical products to support compliance monitoring, scheme assurance and internal and external reporting.

Anticipated Vacancies

Anticipated future opportunities may also arise for Geospatial and Data Specialists supporting the Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme, and for Data Analysts within the Data Innovation and Tools section. The merit pool from this process may also be used to fill roles within the Renewable Energy Target scheme and National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme.
