The Shire of Exmouth is seeking an inspired and passionate Aquarium Assistant to join our Ningaloo Aquarium & Discovery Centre team on a casual basis.

Reporting to the Coordinator Aquarium & Tourism Services and supervised by the Senior Aquarist, the Aquarium Assistant is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day tasks of the Ningaloo Aquarium & Discovery Centre (NADC), including providing high-quality husbandry for the animal collection, and ensuring a high standard of customer experience.

As the Aquarium Assistant, you will be working day-to-day surrounded by an array of beautiful coral and marine life, you will be diving in to the exciting world of aquariums and animal care. Ideally, you will be someone who is adaptable and not afraid to get their hands dirty as you assist the aquarium team with the day-to-day upkeep and maintenance of life support systems and animal husbandry for both marine and reptile exhibits.

The right candidate will be open to delving in to all aspects of the role, including tank maintenance, cleaning, animal care and manual labour. With supervision and support, you will perform routine cleaning and maintenance of tanks, exhibits and aquatic facilities and introduce and rotate environmental enhancements to uphold cleanliness and aesthetic standards whilst adhering to current procedures.

Who are we looking for? We’re looking for a a passionate and driven individual with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. As an Aquarium Assistant, you will have the ability to work effectively in a small team with well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and to take direction and support from the Senior Aquarist and Coordinator. This position does not require any prior experience or knowledge in the field.

Hours are rostered across a 7-day operation. Weekend and public holiday work will be required and attract penalty rates.

What we offer: This position is classified as a Level 4 under the Shire of Exmouth Industrial Agreement 2025 and comes with the following remuneration benefits:

- Base rate of $46.49 per hour (including 25% casual loading)
- Up to 22% superannuation (includes co-contribution by you)
- Location allowance of $2,002 per annum (pro-rata)
- Eligibility for long service leave after 7 years of service (conditions apply), uniform, employee assistance program and other well-being services
