Casual Position | Regular Hours | Brisbane Arts & Entertainment Venue
Take ownership of a growing bar and events operation, with genuine autonomy, consistent hours and the opportunity to make the role your own.
We're looking for an experienced and motivated hospitality professional to manage our bar and events operations within a Brisbane arts centre.
Our business operates a takeaway cafe alongside bar services for theatre performances and special events. With our events offering continuing to grow, we're looking for someone who can step into a key management role and become an integral part of the business long-term.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, takes pride in running a smooth operation and wants more responsibility than a traditional bar supervisor position.
About the role A major part of the position involves managing our large-scale theatre events, currently held every second Saturday.
These events involve preparing and serving cocktails to approximately 685 guests throughout the day, with a team of around eight staff.
You'll be responsible for overseeing the entire operation, from preparation and stock management through to staff coordination, service delivery and pack-down.
We already have established systems and processes in place, providing a strong foundation to work from, along with the opportunity to bring your own ideas and improve the way things operate.
Outside of major events, you'll also oversee smaller bar functions and work alongside our existing cafe team, becoming familiar with daily operations and providing additional support when required.
Hours and employment arrangement
This is a casual position offering regular, consistent hours rather than occasional or ad-hoc shifts.
We're anticipating approximately 15–20 hours per week on average,
with a predictable fortnightly schedule built around our major Saturday events and regular weekday shifts supporting bar preparation and cafe operations.
Commencement
We're taking the time to find the right person, with the aim of having our new Bar & Events Operations Manager in place by January 2027.
There is flexibility to commence earlier, allowing time to become familiar with our team, systems and event operations before gradually taking on full responsibility, with training and support from the owner.
Key responsibilities
- Managing and overseeing major fortnightly theatre bar events
- Planning and preparing cocktail production for high-volume service
- Managing stock levels, ordering and supplier coordination
- Coordinating staff rosters and event preparation
- Overseeing smaller functions and ensuring the bar is fully prepared
- Maintaining efficient systems and smooth service delivery
- Supporting cafe operations through regular shifts and occasional additional coverage
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency as the business grows
About you We're looking for someone who is confident, reliable, organised and comfortable taking responsibility.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Experience in bar management, hospitality supervision or event operations
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Experience leading teams in busy hospitality environments
- Confidence managing stock, ordering and staff rosters
- An understanding of high-volume beverage service
- The ability to work independently and solve problems
- Barista skills are a bonus,
but training can be provided
- A current Queensland RSA
- Availability every second Saturday for our major events
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who genuinely wants to take ownership of the position and become a valued long-term member of the business.
What we offer
- Casual employment with regular, consistent rostered hours
- Competitive hourly remuneration, including applicable weekend penalties and superannuation
- A predictable fortnightly event schedule
- Versatile commencement, ideally by January 2027
- A supported transition with training directly from the owner
- Established systems and an experienced team to work alongside
- Genuine autonomy and responsibility for managing the bar operation
- A supportive team within a unique arts and entertainment environment
- Opportunities for additional hours and responsibilities as the business grows
Why this role is different We're not looking for someone to simply turn up and supervise a shift. We're looking for someone who wants to become the go-to person for our bar operations, take pride in delivering great events and help shape the next stage of the business.
You'll work directly with the owner, who will remain involved in business oversight while giving you the independence to manage day-to-day operations.
If you're an experienced hospitality professional looking for a flexible management opportunity with genuine responsibility and room to grow, we'd love to hear from you.
To apply: Please send through your resume and a short introduction outlining your hospitality management experience and what interests you about the position.
We look forward to hearing from you The Birdhouse Team
Pay: $38.00 – $48.00 per hour
