Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

We are seeking a proactive and driven Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to lead and support initiatives that ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. This position plays a critical role in driving compliance, promoting a positive safety culture, and supporting continuous improvement across all operational areas.

Reporting to the Operations / EHS Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with employees, supervisors, contractors, and leadership teams to maintain the highest standards of workplace safety and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

- Promote and champion a strong safety culture across the organisation.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and drive corrective actions.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring timely reporting and follow-up.
- Develop, review, and maintain Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), SOPs, and risk assessments.
- Coordinate and deliver employee safety training, inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
- Monitor compliance with company safety policies and legislative requirements.
- Manage safety systems including:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Machine guarding
- Permit-to-work systems
- Contractor management
- Emergency preparedness and response
- Support audits and inspections by regulatory authorities.

Environmental Management

- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System.
- Monitor compliance with environmental legislation, licences, permits, and company standards.
- Coordinate environmental reporting and sustainability initiatives.
- Assist with waste management, recycling, energy efficiency, and pollution prevention programs.
- Facilitate environmental risk assessments and corrective action plans.




- Promote environmental awareness throughout the organisation.

Continuous Improvement

- Analyse safety and environmental performance metrics.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for management.
- Lead improvement projects aimed at reducing risk, waste, incidents, and environmental impact.
- Participate in site projects, equipment installations, and process changes to ensure EHS considerations are integrated from the design stage.

About You

Qualifications

- Degree or diploma in:
- Occupational Health & Safety
- Environmental Science
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Engineering
- Industrial Hygiene
- Risk Management
- Or a related discipline
- Relevant certifications highly regarded:
- NEBOSH
- Cert IV Work Health & Safety
- Diploma of WHS
- ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 Auditor
- First Aid & CPR

Experience

- 3-5 years' experience in an Environment, Health & Safety role.
- Experience within manufacturing, food processing, packaging, industrial, chemical, or FMCG environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS and environmental legislation.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
