About the Role

Blastcon Australia is growing, and we're seeking highly experienced Blasthole Drillers with proven, recent, hands-on operating experience on Sandvik DPi 1100 / DPi 1500, and/or Epiroc D60 or D65 drill rigs to join our expanding operations across North Queensland. Previous operating experience on at least one of these specific drill models is an ESSENTIAL requirement for this position.

We are looking for skilled, production-focused operators who can confidently step into our existing operations, work safely and efficiently, and deliver high-quality drilling outcomes from day one.

What You'll Be Doing

- Safely and efficiently operate Sandvik DPi / Epiroc series drill rigs in opencut mining and quarrying environments.
- Accurately drill production blastholes in accordance with approved drill patterns, depths, angles and specifications.
- Utilise onboard GPS guidance and drill navigation systems to achieve accurate drilling outcomes.
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections, equipment checks and routine preventative maintenance.
- Identify, troubleshoot and report mechanical or operational issues to minimise equipment downtime.
- Monitor drilling performance, ground conditions and hole quality to maintain production efficiency.
- Maintain accurate drilling records and operational documentation.
- Work collaboratively with the drill and blast team to achieve production targets and operational requirements.
- Comply with all relevant safety procedures, site requirements and environmental standards.

What We're Looking For

We are specifically seeking experienced drillers who are competent and confident operating the nominated Sandvik DPi / Epiroc series equipment with minimal supervision.

Essential Requirements:

- MANDATORY: Proven, recent, hands-on operating experience on at least one of the following drill rigs:



Sandvik DPi 1100, Sandvik DPi 1500, Epiroc D60 or Epiroc D65.
- Demonstrated competency operating the nominated equipment independently within a production drilling environment.
- Proven experience in blasthole drilling within opencut mining or quarrying operations.
- Strong understanding of drilling techniques, drill patterns, ground conditions and hole quality requirements.
- Experience using GPS-guided drilling systems and onboard navigation technology.
- Sound mechanical aptitude, fault identification skills and a solid commitment to equipment care.
- Ability to work independently, maintain production efficiency and consistently deliver accurate drilling outcomes.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and proactive risk management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a production team.
- Current manual driver's licence.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening.
- Ability to provide recent, relevant employment references verifying your drilling experience.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain a Queensland Explosive Security Clearance (QESC)

Highly Regarded:

- Experience operating multiple Epiroc / Sandvik DPi drill models.
- Experience operating additional makes and models of production drill rigs.
- Relevant drilling competencies and nationally recognised qualifications.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance experience.
