Our partner Bridge For Asylum Seekers is a small organisation relying completely on the support of our committee members, volunteers and donors. The committee’s major work is to raise funds and then distribute to those in desperate need. With money from grants currently providing the majority of their funds, writing grant applications is a priority.
Key responsibilities
- In conjunction with Bridge for Asylum Seekers Committee (Committee) members, ensure that grant monies have been spent according to the constraints of each grant.
- Develop and submit acquittals (funding reports) for grants received and ensure that they have been reviewed and approved by one of the experienced grant application/acquittal writers before being sent to the relevant organisation by the required date.
- Scope relevant grants for the coming financial year and update the schedule of appropriate grants.
- Write and submit approximately six (6) grant applications according to schedule.
- Report to Bridge committee monthly regarding progress of grant applications/acquittal submission.
Skills, experience and attributes
- Has knowledge of the workings of Bridge and of asylum seeker issues in general or is willing to acquire this immediately.
- Comfortable working in an online workplace and experienced with Excel/Google spreadsheets and Word/Google documents or similar.
Note: All our emails, files and reference documents are maintained in a shared online environment, while grant applications and acquittals need to be completed via online forms.
- Organised and methodical
- Able to work independently
- Ability to keep accurate records
- Access to your own computer and internet service. Will need PDF reader, document and spreadsheet development tools,
along with access to Gmail accounts and DropBox (both are freeware)
- Well-developed writing and budget preparation skills
- Willingness to attend monthly Committee meetings
Supervision and support Experienced Committee members available for induction, data input, support and to review applications/acquittals before submission.
Job status The position is voluntary.
Benefits
Participation in an organisation with over 23 years’ experience in successfully providing asylum seekers in need with financial support.
Job location
- Position holder’s home
- Monthly meetings currently held via videoconference
Job hours Up to one day a week for most of the year. It is highly likely that there will be periods when more time per week is needed because grant applications and acquittals need to be submitted by dates specified by the relevant grantmakers. However, this will mean that there will be quiet periods when no applications are needed.
Committee functioning
- In addition to traditional role holders e.g. secretary, treasurer, the Bridge committee comprises approvers of financial transactions and general members.
- Committee members have no face to face contact with people seeking asylum, apart from any that occurs in a private capacity.
This role is with an organisation that partners with the Asylum Seekers Centre. To apply for this position kindly send a current CV and a brief letter responding to the selection criteria (Skills, experience and attributes) to:
[email protected] with the subject line Application: Grant application writer.
Applications through the website of the ASC will not be included in the recruitment process.
Applications close at 11.59pm, Sunday, 1st November, 2026
