Step Off the Tools. Build Relationships. Grow Opportunities.

Are you an experienced tradie or construction professional looking to step off the tools and take your career in a new direction? This role offers the opportunity to put your industry knowledge and relationships to work in business development and operations, while still staying hands-on when needed.

True North Personnel is recruiting on behalf of an established, Territory-owned manufacturer supplying quality concrete masonry products to the Northern Territory construction industry.

We are seeking a commercially minded, practical Business Development / Operations Manager to grow sales, strengthen customer relationships and support the day-to-day running of the business.

Alongside meeting builders, quoting work and securing new opportunities, you will occasionally assist with packing pallets, forklift operations and customer deliveries. A current forklift licence and HR or HC driver licence are essential.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will identify recent business opportunities across the NT, maintain strong relationships with existing customers and work closely with production and administration teams to deliver reliable service.

A key focus will be developing relationships with residential builders, developers and contractors, understanding their upcoming projects and positioning the business as a trusted supplier.

You will also help coordinate customer orders and deliveries, providing practical support during busy periods to keep orders moving and meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development and Customer Relationships

- Identify and secure new sales opportunities across the residential building and construction industry.
- Build and maintain relationships with builders, developers, contractors and existing customers.
- Track upcoming housing projects and developments to build a strong pipeline of work.

- Understand customer requirements, construction schedules and product needs.
- Prepare quotations, follow up proposals and convert enquiries into confirmed orders.
- Conduct customer visits and represent the business at industry meetings and networking events.
- Monitor market activity, competitor offerings and customer feedback to identify opportunities for growth.
- Maintain accurate customer records and provide regular updates on sales activity, forecasts and opportunities.

Operations and Practical Support

- Work closely with production teams to coordinate orders, product availability and delivery requirements.
- Help resolve customer enquiries, order changes and delivery issues promptly.
- Assist with packing and preparing pallets for dispatch when required.
- Operate a forklift to move products and assist with loading and unloading.
- Assist with customer deliveries, including driving company trucks as required within your licence class.
- Follow safe work practices when operating equipment, handling products and completing deliveries.
- Take a practical, flexible approach to supporting the team during busy periods.

About You You will bring construction industry knowledge, commercial awareness and a willingness to contribute across both sales and operations.

Essential requirements:

- A current forklift licence (LF).
- A current HR or HC driver licence.
- Experience in business development, sales, account management, estimating or a similar customer-facing role within construction or building products.

- A sound understanding of residential construction and the needs of builders and contractors.
- Robust communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to identify opportunities, follow up enquiries and secure business.
- Solid organisational skills and the ability to balance customer visits, quoting and operational priorities.
- A willingness and capacity to undertake practical duties, including pallet packing, loading and delivery assistance.
- Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and customer or business management systems.
- A proactive, reliable approach and a strong commitment to safety.

Existing relationships within the Darwin and NT construction industry will be highly regarded, as will experience with a residential builder, building products manufacturer or construction materials supplier.

What Is on Offer

- Make a direct contribution to the growth of an established, Territory-owned business.
- Enjoy a varied role combining customer relationships, sales and practical operations.
- Work directly with the Managing Director, with autonomy to develop opportunities and improve service.
