About the role

Frontline Fabrications is a Sydney steel fabrication and installation business. Our work includes structural steel, staircases and balustrades, bespoke steel fabrication, barriers, maintenance, repairs, onsite welding and steel supply.

We're looking for a qualified engineer with a practical interest in the structural steel and fabrication industry. You'll review drawings and specifications, prepare estimates and tenders, and help find and develop new work for the business.

This role suits an engineer who enjoys the commercial side of construction and wants hands-on involvement in how steel projects are scoped, priced, fabricated and installed. You'll work closely with our management, drafting and workshop team.

Key responsibilities

- Identify and pursue recent project opportunities across construction, infrastructure, commercial, industrial and residential markets
- Promote Frontline's services to builders, contractors, engineers, architects, councils and other potential clients
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and develop repeat business
- Review drawings, specifications and enquiries to understand project scope, risks and delivery requirements
- Prepare or coordinate estimates, quotations and tender submissions
- Follow up proposals and manage opportunities from first contact through to award
- Manage awarded projects from handover through fabrication and installation, keeping them on program and within budget
- Coordinate drafting, procurement, the workshop and site delivery, and manage variations and client communication along the way
- Match each opportunity to Frontline's capabilities, workshop capacity and commercial requirements

- Work closely with management, engineering, drafting and the workshop team to develop practical, competitive proposals

About you

- A fully qualified engineer (civil, structural or mechanical) with work experience in Australia
- Sound engineering fundamentals and working knowledge of the relevant Australian Standards
- Familiarity with the construction and fabrication industry
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications
- Comfortable using a range of software platforms, such as Tekla, Simpro, Planswift, Microsoft Office, Excel and Claude
- A self-starter who can manage their own workload and follow work through
- Clear communication with clients, builders and the workshop team
- Experience in estimating, steel fabrication or business development would be an advantage but is not essential
