Help Shape the Future of Water Treatment
At DuPont Water Solutions, we develop world-leading membrane technologies that help industries and communities around the world access safe, sustainable water.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Research & Development Water Process Engineer to join our Memcor R&D; team in South Windsor, NSW.
This is a practical role for someone who can hit the ground running. You will confidently operate and improve pilot-scale water treatment systems, troubleshoot complex process and equipment issues, undertake hands-on maintenance, and turn test results into clear technical recommendations.
You will work at the intersection of engineering, innovation and water technology, supporting pilot trials, equipment upgrades, membrane cleaning studies, product development and customer-focused technical investigations.
If you enjoy solving technical problems, working directly with equipment and seeing your work contribute to real-world water treatment solutions, we would love to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing In this varied and hands-on role, you will:
- Operate, monitor and maintain pilot-scale water treatment, ultrafiltration membrane pilot plants, membrane bioreactors and associated process equipment.
- Plan and execute pilot trials and test programs to evaluate membrane performance, water quality, cleaning methods and new technologies.
- Monitor water quality and analyse filtration performance, process data and operational trends.
- Troubleshoot and optimise pumps, valves, instrumentation, controls, filtration equipment, process systems and supporting utilities.
- Lead or support pilot plant and test-unit upgrade projects, including scope development, project planning, equipment modification, commissioning and performance verification.
- Program and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and work with HMI or SCADA interfaces where applicable.
- Plan and safely undertake chemical cleaning of membrane filtration systems, including chemical preparation, handling, application and post-cleaning verification.
- Investigate membrane performance issues, fouling and other process-related problems.
- Modify filtration systems and equipment to support trials, technical investigations and process improvements.
- Perform hands-on routine maintenance on membrane filtration systems, pilot plants and test equipment.
- Coordinate laboratory testing and interpret analytical results.
- Provide technical support to customers, including cleaning studies, data interpretation, technical reporting and practical recommendations.
- Prepare clear technical reports, project summaries and recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with R&D;, manufacturing, commercial teams, laboratories, suppliers and customers.
- Demonstrate strong safety leadership and actively contribute to environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
This role requires substantial practical membrane and pilot plant experience. To be successful, you will bring:
- A degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry or a related discipline.
- At least five years of relevant professional post graduate experience, AND att least two years of practical hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting and optimising water treatment, wastewater treatment, ultrafiltration, membrane bioreactors and associated membrane filtration systems.
- Hands-on experience modifying filtration systems, equipment and process configurations.
- The ability to quickly develop a detailed working knowledge of existing pilot equipment, site infrastructure, operating history and established test methods, and to apply that knowledge independently in day-to-day decisions.
- Experience operating or supporting an established water filtration facility, including responsibility for equipment history, maintenance records, test methods, site procedures and improvement activities.
- Experience undertaking chemical cleaning of membrane filtration systems, with demonstrated knowledge of safe chemical handling, chemical preparation and relevant risk-control requirements.
- Practical experience troubleshooting automated process equipment and working with PLC-based controls, HMI interfaces and SCADA systems.
The ability to make or coordinate minor control-system changes would be advantageous
- Practical experience performing routine mechanical and process maintenance on membrane filtration systems and associated equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in water-quality monitoring and the ability to interpret filtration, process and analytical data, including experience monitoring and/or maintaining environmental discharge and trade-waste compliance
- Project management experience, including pilot plant or test-unit upgrades for membrane water filtration systems.
- Experience supporting customers with membrane cleaning studies, technical analysis, recommendations and reporting.
- Strong safety leadership, sound risk awareness and a consistent commitment to protected work and environmental compliance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently investigate technical and operational issues.
- The ability to clearly communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive, practical approach and the confidence to work independently while collaborating effectively across functions.
Highly Regarded The following experience would be advantageous:
- Experience with additional membrane technologies, such as reverse osmosis, microfiltration or related separation processes.
- Knowledge of membrane fouling mechanisms, clean-in-place methods, membrane integrity and performance testing.
- Experience programming PLC control systems.
- Postgraduate studies in water treatment, water engineering or related discipline.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to apply your practical engineering capability in a role where you can see the direct impact of your work.
You will contribute to the development and validation of advanced membrane technologies, support real-world customer applications and help strengthen the performance, reliability and safety of our pilot and test facilities.
You will join a collaborative team working on meaningful water-treatment challenges, with the opportunity to combine hands-on engineering, technical problem-solving, project delivery and innovation.
If you have the practical membrane experience, technical curiosity and safety leadership needed to make an immediate contribution, we encourage you to apply.
