About Our Client

Our client is the maintenance arm of an established WA waste, recycling and resources group, with workshops and offices in Kalgoorlie, Leonora, Geraldton and Perth. The maintenance team has grown from one person to about 30 tradespeople, with 14 hired this year alone. Kalgoorlie is its home base, and more work is on the way, so this is a role where you can build a long-term career.

- $180,000 salary, as a permanent full-time role
- 5&2 roster: Monday to Friday, day shift only

The Fleet

- Scania, UD Trucks and Volvo prime movers and rigids
- Kingvac vacuum trucks
- Trailers and dollies

The Role

As Leading Hand, you’ll be the go-to technical person in the Kalgoorlie workshop. You’ll keep the fleet running safely while supporting the team around you. It’s a hands-on role: you’ll stay on the tools, and you’ll also help set the standard for quality, safety and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and support the workshop team day to day, including allocating and prioritising jobs




- Service, maintain and repair road transport vehicles, trailers and dollies
- Diagnose complex faults and carry out major repairs
- Check work quality and make sure jobs are completed safely and on time
- Attend breakdowns in the field when required
- Keep accurate service records and drive a strong safety culture

About You

You’re an experienced, trade-qualified heavy vehicle mechanic who’s ready to lead, or who already has leading hand experience. You know road transport fleets inside out, take pride in a quality job, and want a stable local role where your experience is valued.

Requirements

- Trade qualification in heavy vehicle or road transport mechanics
- 5+ years’ post-trade experience preferred
- Leading hand or supervisory experience highly regarded
- Based in Kalgoorlie, or willing to relocate there
- Driver’s licence (an HR or MC licence is desirable)
- Transparent National Police Clearance
- Ability to pass a full pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol testing
