Senior Speech Pathologist | Practice Educator Ashfield, Sydney Inner West | Full-time preferred, part time considered
$95,000 - $105,000 + Superannuation
Help shape what's next for speech pathology in Sydney's Inner West.
What if your next career move allowed you to keep doing the clinical work you love, develop future speech pathologists, and help create new ways for children and families to access services? At Talkshop Speech Pathology, we're embarking on an exciting new chapter at our Ashfield clinic. We're bringing together clinical practice, university student education and community-based initiatives to explore how we can deliver high-quality speech pathology in different ways, and reach more families in the process.
We're looking for an experienced Speech Pathologist who loves clinical work, thinks critically, enjoys developing others and wants to help turn good ideas into great services.
Perhaps you've already supervised university students and discovered how rewarding practice education can be. Or perhaps you're a confident, capable clinician who's ready to develop into a Practice Educator. We're open to both.
Thinking about a fresh start in 2027? We'd love to hear from you. We're open to an earlier commencement or a January start for the right person.
A different kind of opportunity
This isn't a traditional senior clinician role with occasional student supervision added on. We're creating an opportunity for experienced clinicians to grow beyond their own caseload, combining the clinical work they enjoy with practice education, professional leadership and the freedom to help develop new services.
Based at our Ashfield clinic, you'll work closely with our Clinical Director and collaborate with experienced clinicians across Talkshop's three clinics. Together, we'll develop new approaches to clinical care, student education and community services, with opportunities for you to contribute across three areas:
- Community and prevention: Helping develop initiatives with playgroups, early learning centres, schools and families through parent education, health promotion, screening and early identification.
- Assessment and intervention: Maintaining your own predominantly paediatric caseload while supporting university students to develop their assessment, intervention, clinical reasoning and professional practice skills.
- Specialist practice: Bringing your particular clinical interests and expertise to the service,
with opportunities to develop targeted consultations or specialist services in areas such as paediatric feeding, motor speech, literacy or AAC.
We're working towards ongoing university student placements, creating opportunities for meaningful practice education throughout the year. You'll help shape how students learn, how services are delivered and how we connect with the communities around us.
You'll be helping build the model, not simply stepping into one that's already been decided.
What you'll bring
First and foremost, you'll be a capable clinician who can independently assess, make sound clinical decisions and clearly explain the reasoning behind them. We're looking for someone who:
- Has at least three years' speech pathology experience, ideally predominantly in paediatrics.
- Demonstrates solid clinical reasoning, evidence-informed practice and professional judgement.
- Enjoys teaching, mentoring and helping others develop confidence and capability.
- Can encourage reflection, provide thoughtful feedback and help developing clinicians think for themselves.
- Brings initiative, curiosity and a willingness to explore better ways of working.
- Enjoys collaborating with families, educators and community partners.
- Values high-quality clinical care and meaningful outcomes for clients.
Previous experience supervising university students is highly regarded, but isn't essential if you have strong clinical foundations and genuine potential as an educator. Experience in a specialist clinical area would be welcomed, and Mandarin or Cantonese language skills would be a bonus.
Why Talkshop?
Talkshop is an established, independent speech pathology practice with three clinics across Sydney's Northern Beaches and Inner West. We're passionate about clinical excellence, developing our people and making speech pathology more accessible to the communities we serve.
Clinical education has long been part of our DNA. Our Founder and Clinical Director has a background in university clinical education,
and we're now bringing that experience together with our team's expertise to develop a different approach to service delivery.
Here's what you can look forward to:
- A genuine voice in shaping services. You'll have the opportunity to influence how our Ashfield service develops, helping turn new ideas into practical, high-quality services for children, families and the wider community.
- A career pathway beyond the traditional caseload. Develop your skills in practice education, specialist clinical work, service innovation or leadership, without having to leave clinical practice behind.
- A team that takes learning seriously. Our weekly Wednesday Workshops bring clinicians together to share knowledge, challenge their thinking and keep developing their practice.
- Support to do great work. Established clinical systems, dedicated administration and client support, and experienced colleagues to collaborate with.
- Flexibility that fits your role and your life. Full-time is preferred, but we're open to part-time arrangements, flexible scheduling and opportunities to work from home for suitable responsibilities. We'll work together to develop an arrangement that supports great clinical care, meaningful practice education and life outside work.
- Remuneration that recognises your contribution. Your starting salary and responsibilities will reflect your demonstrated clinical expertise and practice education experience, with opportunities for further progression and additional remuneration as the service model develops.
We know that experienced clinicians have different professional aspirations. Some want to deepen their clinical expertise. Others love developing people, building services or influencing how our profession evolves. We want to create opportunities for those ambitions to grow.
Interested? We'd love to meet you.
Perhaps you've supervised students and would love to make practice education a bigger part of your career. Perhaps you're a strong clinician who finds just as much satisfaction in helping others learn as you do in working with your own clients.
Or perhaps you've been thinking about how speech pathology could be delivered differently, and you'd love the opportunity to help make that happen.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to have a conversation.
Apply through SEEK with your CV and a short introduction telling us what interests you about this opportunity.
Applicants must be eligible for Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status with Speech Pathology Australia.
