About us The UWA Student Guild has supported students since 1913 and is recognised as a benchmark for student representation across Australia. We are committed to delivering high-quality, accessible services while remaining financially, environmentally, and socially responsible.

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Social Worker to join our Student Assist team on a full-time basis (Monday to Friday). Reporting to the Associate Director (Student Services), you will provide advocacy, support, and case management services to UWA students experiencing academic, financial, personal, and welfare-related challenges.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Social Worker looking to develop their professional practice while making a positive impact within a tertiary education environment.

Key responsibilities include

- Provide individual support, advocacy, and case management to students.
- Assist students to navigate academic, financial, personal, and welfare concerns.
- Liaise with University staff and external service providers to support student outcomes.
- Support students through grievance, appeals, and resolution processes.
- Assess student needs and make appropriate referrals to internal and external support services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
- Collaborate with Guild councillors and team members to deliver effective student advocacy services.

About you To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

- A recognised qualification in Social Work.
- 1-2 years' experience in social work, case management, community services, student support, or a related field.
- Strong assessment, advocacy, and client support skills.
- The ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- A proactive, compassionate, and team-oriented approach.
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (desirable).
- Experience working within the tertiary education sector or with young adults (desirable).

Why join us? This is a rewarding opportunity to support students through some of the most challenging periods of their tertiary journey. You will work within a supportive and collaborative team environment where your contribution directly impacts student wellbeing, success, and engagement.
