This is not a Team Leader role that takes you away from support work. It is a hands-on disability support role for someone who can also bring calm leadership, initiative and consistency to the Dusk Belconnen Onsite Shared Support team. Approximately 80% of the position is direct Support Worker duties, with around 20% focused on team leadership and coordination. The responsibilities may change across a shift, but your leadership does not: you will model QSSS expectations, support good decisions and help keep the service responsive, reliable and tenant-focused.
About the Role
Dusk is a 24/7 Onsite Shared Support service in Belconnen. The team provides unplanned and infrequent assistance when tenants’ usual supports are unavailable. Requests may include practical day-to-day assistance, personal care, meal support and activities of daily living, as well as the initial response and triage of unexpected or emergency situations such as falls or sudden deterioration. You will work rostered OSS shifts alongside the team while also supporting the day-to-day running of the service. You will mentor Support Workers, reinforce training and safe practices, assist with shift filling and coordination, and act as an approachable first point of contact for tenants and team members with routine, on-the-ground matters. Higher-level, complex, clinical,
safeguarding or operational matters will be escalated to the QSSS Support Specialist for guidance and support.
What You’ll Do
- Provide responsive, respectful and person-centred support to tenants with diverse needs.
- Build genuine connections with Dusk Belconnen tenants through regular contact, responsive follow-up and proactive support, ensuring each tenant feels heard and supported in the manner they choose.
- Lead by example and support your team of Support Workers in delivering consistent, high-quality support
- Work alongside your fellow Team Leader in providing consistent, unified support to Support Workers and Tenants alike
- Support regular communication and help build a positive, accountable culture.
- Coach, mentor and reinforce general support training in day-to-day practice
- Support communication, roster coordination and short-notice shift filling
- Be the initial on-site contact for routine matters and escalate issues appropriately
- Use initiative, sound judgement and calm problem-solving when priorities change
- Promote consistent application of QSSS policies, procedures and safe work practices.
Who We’re Looking For
You may already be an experienced Team Leader or Senior Support Worker, or you may be a highly capable Support Worker ready to take the next step. Either way, you will be comfortable doing the work - not simply directing others. You will bring broad disability support experience, a practical and approachable leadership style, strong communication and organisational skills,
and the reliability to follow through. You will know when to act, when to ask and when to escalate. Most importantly, you will always act with kindness and be caring, responsible and committed to helping tenants and team members thrive.
Roster and Pay
This is a casual position averaging 50 hours per fortnight. Applicants must be flexible to work across the seven-day roster, including 8:00 am - 4:00 pm shifts and 4:00 pm - 8:00 am shifts with a sleepover from 10:00 pm - 6:00 am, as well as weekends and public holidays. The advertised rates apply across the role because you are expected to lead through every task: $41.76 weekday | $58.47 Saturday | $75.17 Sunday | $91.88 public holiday.
