Job Description

Placed.au is looking for a full-time Retail Manager for our client in Adelaide Airport, South Australia. This role is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of a petrol station, associated convenience store, and automated car wash. The successful candidate will ensure secure and compliant operations, profitable retail performance, high standards of customer service, effective staff management, accurate financial controls, and reliable stock availability.

Job Description: Site Operations & Business Management

- Plan, organise, and control petrol station and convenience store operations to meet sales, profitability, safety, and service targets.
- Develop and implement site procedures for opening and closing, forecourt inspections, fuel deliveries, automated car-wash operation, emergency response, and daily retail activities.
- Monitor daily site performance, fuel volumes, shop sales, margins, labour costs, and operational issues, and prepare management reports.
- Ensure the site, forecourt, pumps, automated car wash, amenities, and convenience store are clean, secure, operational, and presented to a high standard.
- Complete daily checks of the automated car wash, chemical levels, payment equipment, signage, wash bay, drainage, and safety systems; arrange servicing and repairs when required.

Staff Management & Leadership

- Recruit, induct, train, supervise, and motivate console operators and retail staff.
- Prepare rosters, allocate duties, manage shift coverage, and maintain appropriate staffing levels during peak and overnight periods.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and ensure staff follow customer service, cash handling, age-restricted sales, safety, and emergency procedures.




- Maintain a positive, accountable, and safety-focused workplace culture.

Financial Management & Cash Control

- Prepare and manage site budgets, sales targets, labour costs, and operating expenses.
- Monitor fuel and convenience-store margins, investigate variances, and implement cost-control measures.
- Oversee point-of-sale reconciliation, cash handling, banking, safe controls, drive-off reporting, and loss prevention.
- Analyse fuel volumes, shop sales, car-wash revenue, average transaction values, stock turnover, wastage, and overall profitability.

Fuel, Inventory & Supplier Coordination

- Monitor fuel tank levels and coordinate fuel orders and deliveries to maintain supply while avoiding outages or overfills.
- Coordinate with fuel suppliers, convenience-store vendors, car-wash chemical suppliers, maintenance contractors, and service technicians.
- Maintain convenience-store stock levels, oversee stock rotation and expiry-date controls, and minimise shrinkage and wastage.
- Approve replenishment and product ranges based on sales trends, local demand, promotions, and seasonal requirements.

Sales, Merchandising & Customer Experience

- Implement convenience-store merchandising, product placement, pricing, and promotional strategies to maximise sales and gross profit.
- Plan and execute fuel, food, beverage, car wash, and seasonal promotions in line with supplier and brand requirements.
- Ensure prompt, friendly,



and accurate service at the console and throughout the site.
- Resolve customer feedback, complaints, payment issues, fuel-related incidents, and car-wash faults or service claims professionally and promptly.

Safety, Compliance & Site Security

- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS), dangerous-goods, environmental, food-safety, tobacco, lottery, and other applicable retail and licensing requirements.
- Conduct and document forecourt, pump, automated car-wash, emergency-equipment, spill-response, drainage, and security checks.
- Report hazards, incidents, equipment faults, and suspected leaks promptly.

Qualifications/Attributes:

- Must hold a relevant Diploma in Retail Management, Business Management, or a related field, or at least three (3) years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
- Must have at least three (3) years of relevant work experience in retail management or a related operational management role.
- Strong leadership and staff management skills, including recruitment, training, rostering, and performance management.
- Experience managing retail operations, sales targets, budgets, labour costs, and operating expenses.
- Ability to monitor financial performance, investigate variances, and implement cost-control measures.
- Experience in stock control, supplier coordination, inventory management, and merchandising.
- Strong customer service and complaint-resolution skills.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety, environmental requirements, and applicable retail licensing regulations.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple operational priorities and maintain a safe, efficient, and customer-focused workplace.

Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000 p.a. excluding superannuation.
