Procurement & Stores Officer

Whitty Engineering - Mount Gambier

Leadology is proud recruitment partner of Whitty Engineering - a family‑owned engineering business specialising in delivering engineered solutions across timber, construction, housing and industrial sectors. Established in 2008, they now employ 60 staff in our purpose‑built Mount Gambier workshop.

They are seeking a Procurement & Stores Officer to ensure materials, parts, consumables and tools flow efficiently through the business — supporting fabrication, machining and engineering teams. This role suits someone who enjoys structure, accuracy and continuous improvement, and who brings both procurement capability and strong stores discipline.

About the Role

This position is not a traditional stores, warehouse or pick/pack role. It is a role in which you will make commercially sound purchasing decisions, and have a strong influence on implementing systems that add value to the stores and operational functions of the business.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will support the full procurement cycle and ensure the stores operate in a safe, organised and well‑controlled manner. This role ensures materials are sourced, prepared and batched efficiently for workshop teams, improving workflow speed, accuracy and job readiness.

You will contribute to the development of a more mature Stores function supporting jobs of varying scale—from small machining tasks to multi‑million‑dollar projects—requiring independent thinking and practical decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

- Request supplier quotes, raise purchase orders, follow up delivery ETAs and maintain clear supplier communication.

- Receive, check, label and store incoming goods, ensuring delivery dockets match purchase orders and discrepancies are reported promptly.

- Maintain inventory records, assist with stocktakes and contribute to developing improved inventory systems and processes.

- Maintain tool registers, including issuing, returning, repairs and calibration tracking.

- Issue materials, parts, consumables and tools to workshop personnel with accuracy and clear documentation.

- Develop and implement organised, secure and efficient stores layouts, workflows and labelling systems (beyond basic cleaning/maintenance).

- Support the Procurement & Stores Manager with reporting, administration and operating the function during periods of absence.

About You

- Experience in procurement, stores, warehousing, or inventory control

- Strong organisation and attention to detail

- Computer skills (inventory systems, spreadsheets, email)

- Forklift licence or willingness to obtain

- Reliable, practical and able to work independently

What We Offer

- Permanent full‑time role in an established engineering business

- Clear expectations and structured processes

- Supportive team environment

- Opportunity to make a real impact on workshop efficiency
