# About the Role
As an Animal Enrichment Volunteer, you will help develop and implement enrichment activities for a diverse range of animals, including native Australian wildlife and non-native species. You will also help inspire the next generation of animal lovers by developing enrichment ideas that teachers can use with their students and loan animals.
# Key Responsibilities
• Research animal enrichment: Investigate and research suitable enrichment opportunities for a wide range of species, considering their natural behaviours, instincts, habitats and individual needs.
• Prepare enrichment: Create, assemble and prepare enrichment items using safe, appropriate and accessible materials.
• Deliver enrichment: Distribute enrichment to animals in line with their species-specific needs and the Centre's animal care procedures.
• Observe and evaluate: Observe how animals interact with enrichment and help identify what works best for different species and individuals.
• Develop educational activities: Create fun, practical and age-appropriate enrichment activities that school students can complete in the classroom with their borrowed animals.
• Support teachers and students: Help develop ideas and resources that encourage children to understand animal behaviour, welfare and responsible animal care.
• Keep resources organised: Maintain records of enrichment ideas, materials and activities, and assist with keeping enrichment supplies organised.
# About You
We are looking for someone who:
• Has a genuine passion for animal welfare and enrichment.
• Is creative, curious and enjoys researching recent ideas.
• Has an interest in animal behaviour and the natural needs of different species.
• Can work independently, manage tasks and follow instructions.
• Is practical and enjoys making, building or creating things.
• Has an interest in education and developing activities for children.
• Is reliable, organised and willing to learn.
• Can follow animal handling, hygiene and safety procedures.
Previous experience working with animals, studying animal care, education or a related field would be beneficial but is not essential. We welcome someone who is enthusiastic, willing to learn and excited to contribute their ideas.
# What You Will Gain
• Hands-on experience developing enrichment for a diverse collection of animals.
• The opportunity to expand your knowledge of native Australian wildlife and non-native species.
• Experience researching animal behaviour and welfare.
• The chance to develop educational resources for schools and children.
• An opportunity to contribute to animal wellbeing and environmental education in the community.
• The satisfaction of seeing your ideas benefit both animals and the people who care for them.
