About Makarios Earthmoving Makarios Earthmoving is an established civil construction and plant hire business based in Mount Isa but servicing North West Queensland. Our business spans active field construction sites across remote areas and outback locations. We operate an advanced heavy machinery and transport fleet.
To maximize asset tracking, meet strict contract criteria, and maintain continuous wireless coverage and data connectivity across our active worksites and remote areas, we are seeking a dedicated Telecommunications Network Planner.
The Role
Joining the team at Makarios Earthmoving, this role is responsible for planning, analyzing, developing, and coordinating our localized telecommunications network infrastructure and data streaming layout. You will bridge the gap between our heavy fleet and our cloud-based data networks, designing and mapping how our fleet telemetry, advanced 3D machine control, and cloud-based telematics tracking platforms stream route safely back to our primary databases. A core focus of this position will involve managing comprehensive commercial planning parameters, technical budgeting, and infrastructure estimations to effectively map resource allocations, prepare bills of quantities, and produce detailed material cost projections for all network deployments and fleet technology expansions.Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Assessment: Assess existing satellite, cellular, and radio network coverage profiles across remote outback project sites to determine bandwidth requirements, data serviceability, and connectivity constraints.
- Network Planning & Mapping: Prepare technical telecommunications network plans, route layouts, connectivity diagrams, and frequency schedules to link mobile fleet modules directly to site GNSS Base Stations and cloud servers.
- Cost Estimation & Project Budgeting: Utilize technical and business parameters to prepare detailed scopes of work, material infrastructure schedules, bills of quantities, project cost estimations, and resource budget documentation for network deployments and fleet tech expansions.
- Capacity & Topology Design: Plan data distribution paths and map custom enterprise point-tally platforms to monitor machine telemetry, safety alert data flows, and AI fatigue camera data streams without network dropouts.
- Diagnostics & Optimization: Analyze network performance, fault trends, and connectivity dropouts in remote terrain, recommending engineering upgrades or alternative routing methods to guarantee contract compliance.
- Documentation & Records: Maintain complete, accurate technical documentation of network architectures, financial asset estimations, design revisions, and frequency allocations for the fleet.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate with internal operations management, field technicians, clients, and technical utility providers to facilitate network mapping, design approvals, and deployment schedules.
Skills & Qualifications Required
- Education: An AQF Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Telecommunications Network Engineering)
or closely equivalent technical qualification verified directly by Engineers Australia. A secondary qualification or formal training background in Business Management, commerce, or a related commercial discipline is highly regarded.
- Technical Frameworks: Proven enterprise competency in network routing/switching protocols (Cisco/Juniper configurations) and cloud environment structures (Microsoft Azure/Entra infrastructure).
- Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of demonstrated professional experience in telecommunications network planning, infrastructure design, or technical project cost estimation.
- Technical Proficiency: Proven understanding of GPS/GNSS technology, network topology, cellular data transmission protocol, and cloud dashboard integration.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical, technical resource documentation, coordination, and network troubleshooting skills.
- Communication: Strong communication skills to liaise comfortably with heavy machinery operators, field mechanics, and management.
- Compliance: Possession of a current manual driver's licence and the immediate capability to pass standard civil site medical and drug/alcohol screening.
