Action Ohs Consulting

Melbourne

Are you passionate about construction safety and confident working within Victoria’s OHS regulatory framework? We’re looking for a motivated WHS Consultant to join our team delivering construction and infrastructure projects across Victoria.

At Action OHS Consulting, our construction work is grounded in practical site-based risk management.

We work across civil construction and infrastructure projects, supporting clients to meet their obligations under the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and OHS Regulations 2017, including Principal Contractor duties, contractor management, and high-risk construction work.

Our focus is practical: helping clients translate legal obligations into safe, workable systems on active construction sites.

You may currently be working as a WHS Advisor, Safety Advisor, HSE professional, or WHS consultant within construction or infrastructure environments and are confident operating in Victoria’s regulatory context.

You understand how construction safety works in practice — not just in theory — including how legal duties apply across PCBU arrangements, Principal Contractors, subcontractors, and site-based operations.

You are comfortable working in environments where compliance with WorkSafe Victoria expectations is essential and non-negotiable.

If you hold Lead Auditor credentials, have experience auditing construction projects, understand complex contractor management arrangements, or are confident reviewing construction safety management documentation and critical risk activities, that’s fantastic.

However, if you don’t tick every box just yet, we’d still love to hear from you. We’re committed to developing our people and providing opportunities to build capability across a broad range of health and safety disciplines.

What you’ll get to do

- Deliver construction safety audits across active Victorian construction sites
- Undertake site inspections
- Review and assess safety documentation including SWMS and construction safety management plans
- Support Contractors in meeting their regulatory duties under Victorian OHS legislation
- Conduct desktop and field-based verification of Safety Management Systems and risk controls
- Provide practical recommendations to close compliance gaps and improve site safety performance

- Support implementation of safety systems and tools across construction clients
- Deliver Small Business OHS Essentials Program audits on behalf of WorkSafe Victoria programs
- Support clients with risk assessments, inspections, and safety system improvements

Opportunity to gain exposure to

- Major Victorian construction and infrastructure programs
- ISO 45001 and integrated WHS management systems
- Contractor governance and high-risk construction work
- Incident investigation methodologies (including ICAM)
- Occupational hygiene and exposure monitoring programs
- Psychosocial risk management
- Broader consulting across manufacturing, government, and community sectors

At Action OHS, we’re all about impact, flexibility and growth. You’ll be part of a team that values your ideas, supports your development and celebrates your success.

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated construction WHS experience in Victoria, including work on active civil or building construction sites.
- Strong understanding of the Victorian OHS Act 2004 and OHS Regulations 2017, particularly as they apply to construction projects.
- Practical experience supporting or advising Principal Contractors and/or PCBUs on site compliance and risk management.
- Hands-on experience reviewing and developing SWMS (Safe Work Method Statements).
- Experience conducting construction site inspections, audits, or compliance reviews in live operational environments.
- Ability to identify, assess and escalate non-compliance with regulatory requirements, not just general safety improvements.
- Strong communication skills working with contractors, site supervisors, and project managers in fast-paced construction environments.

Highly regarded

- Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 45001 or equivalent)

- Experience aligning site systems with WorkSafe Victoria guidance material and compliance expectations
- Exposure to infrastructure delivery environments (civil, transport, utilities, or government projects)
- Experience supporting incident investigations and regulatory reporting requirements
- Familiarity with high-risk work activities such as excavation, working at heights, mobile plant, and structural steel

Besides the work... why join us?

We’re committed to creating a workplace where people can thrive professionally and personally.

Some of the benefits our team enjoy include:

- Being part of a certified B Corp organisation that is genuinely committed to sustainability and positive social impact.
- Transparent communication through monthly all-staff meetings and our annual team conference (off site), ensuring everyone understands our strategy, performance and future direction.
- Our Profit Share Program, because when the business succeeds, our people should share in that success.
- A range of wellbeing initiatives, including a $250 annual wellbeing allowance, annual flu vaccinations, healthy workplace initiatives and versatile hybrid working arrangements.
- Tailored onboarding and buddy programs to help new team members settle in quickly and confidently.
- Two paid Professional Development Days each year, plus access to a dedicated professional development budget.
- Public Holiday Swap arrangements to support cultural, religious and personal commitments.
- Our We Care Program, designed to provide additional support when life throws unexpected challenges your way.
- Additional leave benefits through our Extra Leave Program, including School Holiday Leave for eligible employees, Bonus Leave Days throughout the year and Service Recognition Leave to celebrate long-term contribution and loyalty.

All that aside, we have a genuinely supportive and collaborative culture where people are encouraged to grow, contribute and succeed.
