Drover Ag Recruitment

Yarrowitch

The Story
If you are an energetic, practical, and progressive livestock professional seeking an active, highly hands-on management role where you can drive elite cattle performance, operate modern machinery, and execute property development, this position offers an outstanding platform.
Spanning 6,500 acres across four well-located properties in the highly regarded Yarrowitch Valley, this progressive family-owned enterprise runs a high-performing self-replacing Angus herd. The aggregation combines 1,000 breeding cows, 200 replacement heifers, and 500 young dry stock with an active commitment to pasture renovation, modern plant operation, and top-tier infrastructure maintenance and development.

With the owners based on their interstate cropping operation, you will take full operational ownership across all four blocks. The owners are hands-on and highly supportive, maintaining open, regular communication. They visit regularly—especially during school holidays when they love getting involved alongside you in mustering and yard work with their family. Whether you are an experienced manager seeking a high-performing, well-resourced aggregation or a highly capable, driven operator ready for your first management step, this position provides the ideal mix of operational authority, modern equipment, and team support.

The Operation
The enterprise focuses on high-grade self-replacing Angus genetics, emphasising fertility, calm temperament, moderate cow size, and rapid progeny growth. It features a tight 6-week calving program from August to mid-September, with heifers starting in late July. Agile management of dry stock and feeder steers aims to achieve a heavy-feeder specification (420+ kg turnoff). Grazing management and livestock record-keeping utilise Mobble technology to enable real-time tracking of herd movements, treatments, paddocks, and stock numbers.

Property development,

pasture improvement, and infrastructure upgrades in some steep hill country drive operations. The owners prioritise high-standard equipment and infrastructure, owning modern machinery such as tractors, a fert spreader, spray rigs, and a disc planter. Key infrastructure includes undercover steel cattle yards, well-maintained laneways, and reliable stock water systems. Daily stockwork emphasises efficiency, using modern two-wheel motorbikes and side-by-sides, with working dogs allowed on dry stock.

The Role
Reporting regularly and directly to the owners, you will hold operational responsibility for day-to-day farm logistics, livestock health, pasture renovation, property development, and equipment maintenance, while directing the daily activities of the stationhand and caretaker.

Key responsibilities include:

- Livestock & Grazing Management: Taking full hands-on ownership of the 1,000-cow herd and dry stock, executing tight joining/calving programs, managing animal health, pregnancy scanning support, and maintaining all herd records and rotational grazing plans using Mobble.
- Pasture, Property & Infrastructure Development: Operating on-farm machinery (tractors, spray rigs, disc planters, fertiliser spreaders) to execute spray-and-plant pasture programs, weed control, fencing upkeep, and infrastructure development projects across steep to undulating country.
- Machinery & Infrastructure Maintenance: Servicing, maintaining, and repairing station vehicles, tractors, planters, spray rigs,

motorbikes, and yard facilities, keeping all assets in top working order.
- Record Keeping & Owner Communication: Maintaining accurate digital stock records in Mobble, tracking performance metrics, and maintaining regular, transparent communication and updates with the owners.

The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a trustworthy, energetic professional with genuine cattle sense and strong mechanical aptitude. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in commercial beef cattle breeding, herd health, and rotational grazing, with a focus on efficient farm operations. Competence in operating two-wheel motorbikes, side-by-sides, tractors, planters, spray rigs, and fertiliser spreaders is essential, especially in steep terrain. Practical mechanical skills for servicing equipment and infrastructure are also required. The candidate must maintain high personal standards, communicate clearly with the owner, and be proficient with Mobble technology for livestock record-keeping. A team of working dogs for dry stock, a valid Driver's Licence (MC/HC essential), and a commitment to workplace health and safety are necessary.

The Offer
A lucrative remuneration package is provided, featuring a comfortable, fully renovated 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom residence set in established gardens with stunning valley views. The location is conveniently situated just a 12-minute drive to the local school bus pickup and 35-40 minutes from Walcha. Additionally, the employer fully covers electricity costs, and employees receive a late-model work ute in excellent condition.

Interested? To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your cattle background, steep terrain machinery/pasture experience, and mechanical skills. For a confidential discussion, please call John Boote on 0428 245 261.
