Infrastructure Systems Admin Engineer – Wintel & Linux

About the Opportunity

QIX Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Systems Admin Engineer to join a leading enterprise technology environment in Perth on a short-term contract.

This chance is ideal for a technically strong Infrastructure Engineer with hands-on expertise across Microsoft Windows Server, Wintel, Linux/UNIX, VMware, Azure and infrastructure automation.

The successful candidate will support the deployment, administration, maintenance and optimisation of enterprise infrastructure across both cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring high availability, security and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

- Deploy, configure, administer and support Microsoft Windows and Linux/UNIX infrastructure across enterprise environments.
- Provide Level 2 technical support, troubleshooting and incident resolution across infrastructure platforms.
- Manage application and platform changes, releases, service requests and infrastructure upgrades.
- Work closely with Project Managers and technical teams to deliver infrastructure projects and operational improvements.
- Perform root cause analysis, resolve recurring technical issues and implement service improvement initiatives.
- Administer Active Directory, Exchange, Microsoft 365, Azure and associated identity management services.
- Support virtualised environments, including VMware vSphere, vCenter, HA, DRS and SRM.
- Perform Linux/UNIX server provisioning, patching, system hardening and performance optimisation.
- Automate infrastructure deployment and administration using PowerShell, Ansible, Puppet and Terraform.




- Ensure compliance with ITIL Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, configurations and operational procedures.

Skills & Experience Required

Microsoft / Wintel Infrastructure

- Minimum 3 years of Microsoft infrastructure deployment and operational support experience.
- Strong Level 2 Wintel administration and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, ADCS and ADFS.
- Experience with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and certificate management.
- Strong administration experience across Exchange, Exchange Online and Microsoft 365.
- Experience with SCOM, PowerShell scripting and infrastructure monitoring.
- Exposure to FIM/MIM, file and print services and identity management technologies.
- Experience with Azure IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), authentication and security services.

Linux / UNIX Administration

- Minimum 3 years of experience provisioning, administering and supporting Linux/UNIX operating systems.
- Hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, Solaris or Oracle Linux.
- Experience with Linux patching and lifecycle management using Red Hat Satellite, Spacewalk or similar tools.




- Strong understanding of Linux/UNIX OS hardening, security controls and CIS Benchmarks.
- Experience integrating Linux/UNIX servers with Active Directory and LDAP authentication.
- Knowledge of disk management, storage provisioning and filesystem administration.
- Experience with VMware and KVM virtualisation technologies.

Automation & Scripting

- Strong scripting capabilities using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Perl, Bourne or Korn Shell.
- Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet and Terraform.
- Ability to develop and maintain scripts to streamline infrastructure administration and operational processes.

Qualifications

- ITIL Foundation v4 Certification.
- Relevant experience in enterprise infrastructure administration, systems engineering or infrastructure operations.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and project delivery teams.
