Senior Software Engineer – Platform & Architecture

Shape the next generation of a geospatial platform, as our first senior engineering hire.

Intelfuse builds datafuse3D, a cloud-based platform for LiDAR processing, 3D modelling, utility asset and vegetation analysis, clearance calculations and customer reporting. It’s live, it’s used in real project delivery, and it’s ready for its next phase.

We’re building a new development team, and you’ll be the first senior engineer in it. You’ll get to know the platform inside out, set its technical direction, and help hire the specialists who’ll scale it.

What you’ll do

- Own production support for datafuse3D: investigate defects, failed jobs, deployment issues and incidents, and turn recurring problems into permanent fixes.
- Review the full platform, including code, databases, AWS environments, deployment and workflows, and compare it against existing documentation.
- Identify the biggest constraints on scale, cost, reliability and delivery speed.
- Build a prioritised 24-month technical roadmap that sets out what to keep, refactor, replace or defer.
- Contribute hands-on to backend, platform and integration work, and make pragmatic architecture decisions.
- Set engineering standards for code review, testing, CI/CD, monitoring and releases.
- Help recruit and onboard LiDAR/C++, PostgreSQL, front-end/3D and AWS/DevOps specialists.
- Introduce AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly, with IP and customer data protected.

You don’t need to be an expert in all of it. We want someone who can work across a mature mixed stack and knows where specialist depth is needed.

What you’ll bring

- 5+ years of commercial software engineering, including supporting production systems
- Strong backend skills and confidence working in unfamiliar or legacy codebases
- Experience turning technical debt into a practical improvement roadmap
- Cloud experience (ideally AWS), including containerised workloads
- Strong SQL and relational database skills (PostgreSQL or spatial data is a big plus)
- Solid grounding in automated testing, CI/CD and controlled releases
- The ability to explain trade-offs clearly and balance quality with delivery, budget and timing

Highly regarded: geospatial, LiDAR, utilities or remote-sensing experience; PostGIS or large spatial datasets; Java/Spring, Python or C++; modernising a live product; hiring and assessing engineers; AI/ML-enabled workflows.
