About the role:

The position of the 2IC is a critical role in a energetic environment which consists of direct hands-on maintenance of rolling stock and their subcomponents and is responsible alongside the Maintenance Delivery Manager for the day-to-day direct supervision of employees

Job tasks and responsibilities:

- Ensure all employees work in a safe manner

- Report workplace hazards, near misses and incidents

- Ensure all work is completed to a quality standard

- Provide constructive input to the management team

- With assistance from the Maintenance Delivery Manager, coordinate the team and workload to prioritize and meet targets.

- Communicate with customers where required.

- Provide justification for planned vs actual hours.





- Lead daily start and end of shift meetings where the Maintenance Delivery Manager is unable to attend.

- Undertake all such other duties necessary to ensure that the ongoing functions and operations of the team are conducted to the satisfaction of the Maintenance Manager, Production Manager or Operations Manager.

Skills and experience:

- Trade qualifications (Mechanical, Electrical or suitable related disciplines).

- Previous experience working within a heavy maintenance/ asset management environment preferred but not essential.

- Experience and ability to fault find and utilize trouble shooting skills

- Ability to work unsupervised and be a hands-on team player

- Excellent customer service and communication skills

- Proven ability to organize and priorities tasks, be flexible and resourceful, proactive and professional in manner with a high degree of initiative

- Rail Industry Experience (Desirable)
