Community Living Options
Adelaide
We are a values-focused organisation, who put the people we support, first. Established in 1982 by a group of local parents who wanted respite and accommodation for their now adult children, we have expanded exponentially because our participants love our services.
At Community Living Options we provide an inclusive environment where people are valued and supported. We welcome applicants with lived experience, all abilities, cultural background, gender, sexuality, age and spirituality.
Join our Dual Disability team! This is not your typical support role, you will join a Person Centred Support Worker team, working under the guidance of a dedicated Service Coordinator to deliver a specialist, evidence-based model of support that empowers, uplifts and has been shown to make a lasting difference.
About the Role
I am looking for someone who can work alongside me and provide consistent, 1:1 support that is tailored to my needs, goals and preferences. I live in Hillcrest and experience multiple and complex mental health challenges, so having someone who can build a trusting, safe and positive relationship with me is really important.
I would like support to help me live my life the way I choose, maintain my independence and work towards the goals that matter to me. Some of the things I enjoy are going to the beach, spending time watching TV together and having someone who can share these activities with me while encouraging my wellbeing and participation in everyday life.
You will be part of a supportive team that works together to provide the consistent, person-centred support I need. The role is currently casual and includes one passive overnight shift, with the opportunity to become permanent part-time in the future. I also need support on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm to 11:00pm, followed by a passive overnight shift from 11:00pm to 7:00am.
This includes:
- Supporting me to participate in my daily routines in ways that promote my independence, choice and wellbeing.
- Assisting me to access my community, maintain connections and participate in activities that are meaningful to me.
- Using your own vehicle to help me get to the places that are important to me, including appointments, activities and community outings.
- Supporting me to attend medical and allied health appointments and make informed decisions about my health and wellbeing.
- Encouraging and empowering me to work towards my goals, build on my strengths and achieve the outcomes that matter most to me.
- Working alongside me to develop my life skills, confidence and independence through consistent and strengths-based support.
- Providing active support that values my choices, promotes my participation and enables me to be as independent as possible.
- Maintaining accurate records to ensure my support is consistent, safe and aligned with my needs and goals.
- Communicating openly, respectfully and collaboratively with me, my support network and the team around me.
Who I am Looking For
I am looking for someone to join my support team who will take the time to get to know me, support my choices, and help me engage in activities that are meaningful to me. I enjoy having options and would love someone who can bring new ideas and experiences for us to explore together.
Building a consistent and trusting relationship is important, so I'm looking for someone who wants to support me long term as I work towards my goals.
You'll support me with everyday tasks in a way that promotes my independence, while being flexible and responsive to what I need each day. Some days I may want to get out and about, while other days I may prefer to stay home and enjoy a chat.
About You
You bring a calm presence, resilience and a genuine passion for people living with complex psychological needs. You are grounded, self-aware and able to hold space for strong emotions being freely expressed.
You are someone who can:
- Listen deeply and respond with empathy
- Foster trust and build authentic relationships whilst maintaining a non-judgemental approach
- Stay composed in high-pressure situations
- Validate and support emotional expression
- Promote safety and routine while building capacity
- Be a consistent, respectful and reliable presence
- Maintain clear and consistent professional boundaries
What You'll Need to Thrive in This Role
- NDIS Worker Screening or DHS Disability related check
- Current Driver's Licence
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current CPR
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability/Aged Care) or other relevant qualifications
- Medication Administration
- Borderline Personality Disorder experience
