Senior Data Migration Engineer (2 positions)

Duration: Initial contract until 29 October 2027, with a possible 6-month extension

Company Overview: BLACKROC is partnering with a Queensland Government department to recruit two Senior Data Migration Engineers.

Role Purpose

You'll join a major transformation program that is now in its build stage, replacing a legacy Appian-based case management system with a modern Microsoft platform. You'll design, build, test and run repeatable migrations from Appian-backed SQL sources into Microsoft Dataverse. That covers the full lifecycle: source analysis and mapping, mock loads, production cutover and post-load validation, with every run reliable, auditable and reconciled.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build and support repeatable migration pipelines, scripts, dataflows and packages from SQL sources into Dataverse
- Handle extraction, staging, transformation, cleansing, loading and post-load validation using Microsoft cloud tooling or Dynamics-specific tools
- Load data into Dataverse while correctly managing table dependencies, lookups, alternate keys, ownership, status/state, choices, notes and attachments
- Analyse source SQL structures to identify data gaps, duplicates, invalid values, orphaned records and dependency risks
- Build reconciliation, exception reporting and data quality checks that prove completeness and accuracy
- Support mock migration cycles, defect triage, production cutover, rollback planning and operational handover
- Work with architects, analysts, testers, developers and business SMEs to confirm mappings and transformation rules
- Contribute to reusable migration patterns, standards, runbooks and documentation

Required Skills & Experience





- Extensive experience delivering data migration or complex data integration in large enterprise environments
- Strong experience migrating data from SQL-based sources into Microsoft Dataverse, Dynamics 365, Power Platform or comparable enterprise SaaS platforms
- Solid SQL skills across profiling, extraction, transformation, reconciliation and troubleshooting
- Hands‐on knowledge of Dataverse migration patterns, including lookups, alternate keys, ownership, security, choice values, many-to-many relationships, notes, attachments and bulk loads
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Power Platform dataflows, Power Query, Azure SQL and related Azure services
- Experience with Dynamics-specific migration tools such as KingswaySoft, SSIS Integration Toolkit, XrmToolBox, Configuration Migration Tool or Package Deployer
- Experience building migration processes with strong error handling, logging, retry logic and auditability
- Experience with Azure DevOps or equivalent, and with delivery in Agile teams

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

- Appian data models, Appian-backed SQL databases or case management data structures
- Microsoft Fabric lakehouse/warehouse staging, medallion architecture, notebooks and Dataflow Gen2
- Migration of documents, activity history, teams, queues and business units
- Data governance, lineage, privacy, retention and records management
- Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Azure Data Engineer, Microsoft Fabric or SQL certifications
